Clowns in various forms have been around a very long time, but is there any such thing as public domain in this field? The thing is, most, if not all, modern clown faces are registered, so it would be hard to make something new and unique. Copying an existing one, or even something resembling one, would probably draw the ire of clowns everywhere, if not outright legal action. Clowns are quite protective of their craft, and rightly so. I suppose licensing could be an option, but how much would that cost? Written permission? Source credits? So many complications...
