Why is there a separate folder for shaders and shader presets in Daz?

I have a bad habit of neglecting to look under my presets folder and end up forgetting about stuff I've bought, lol.

Shaders and Shader Presets are different things. See Chapter 3 of the DAZ Studio 4.6 User Guide: http://docs.daz3d.com/lib/exe/fetch.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/daz_studio_4_x_user_guide.pdf

Originally Shaders was for the presets that came with new Shaders and Shader Presets was for those that didn't, but recently there has been a move to using Shader Presets for everything - if you get updates (via DIM or just redownloading) you will, I think, find that there's been a general migration to Shader Presets (and Light presets and Camera Presets in place of Lights and Cameras respectively).

I can't get through the driver's manual much less the Daz user guide ... lol. My brain shuts down with any kind of manual-style writing. Legal documents do the same thin to me.

Thank the Gods for YouTube tutorials, lol.

But I utilize them the same way, right?

Yes, it's just correcting the terminology -- everything you see in the content library is technically a Shader Preset, but in the past the folder was just called Shaders, so older things are gradually being redone to use Shader Presets.

Richard is correct. The "Shader" folder in the content library isn't where the actual .sdl files existed. That folder was used for Shader Presets, however to be more accurate Shader Presets should now placed in the Shader Presets.

It is important that people understand that Shader Presets aren't Shaders.

As long as they do what I want and are used the same way, I don't care much about the difference ... lol.
