Obj Files and Daz Studio

I have just started using Daz Studio Pro 4.5 and have found that not all of my old Poser content will load. Daz studio doesn't seem to be able to find the obj files in these cases. Also, some of the prop files (pp2) will not load as well with same issue. What do I need to do? Some of these files are over 10 years old and I'm not sure where I have these stored on disc so reloading may not be a solution. Any help?

Are you sure the content folders are set correctly - they should be, if you are seeing the library files, but it's worth checking. Also, are you sure the paths are correct in the Poser files, again they should be or they'd have failed in Poser but Poser was accepting of partial paths.

The three main causes of DS not finding a file are bad pathways, missing files, and the good old space in the folder/file name.

The last one is the likely culprit here, so check the folders/files and pathways in the files for spaces, and replace them with underscores.

Are you sure you have the .obj files that the Poser content is looking for? The Poser files will all be in one of your /Runtime/Libraries/ folders, and the .obj files should be somewhere in the /Runtime/Geometries/ folder, possibly several levels deep in a sub-sub-sub-folder. When you've found it, check that the path from /Runtime/ onwards only exactly matches the path as stated in the Poser content file.

(Poser and DAZ|Studio should already know where your content folders are, the only important part of the file path is where the file is inside the content folder. Anything before /Runtime/ in the path is unimportant and should be ignored.)

I appreciate the help but making sure the names didn't have a space didn't seem to fix the problem. I went ahead and reloaded the files to make sure everything was in the right place. I checked and there are no obj files associated with the files in questions, and the downloads are complete, no missing files. There are pp2 files and poser content files, as well as textures files. See attachment for pic of folder. I am open to more suggestions.A lot of my poser files will not open.

Make sure you have Windows set to display Hidden and System files and search for the missing files -- it may be that they are in AppData rather than in Program Files (x86), which is a protected folder.

Can you post screenshots of your list of Runtimes in Poser, if you have more than one, and in DS of Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager for both DS formats and Poser formats.

And how are you loading the files? Are they visible in the DS Content Library under Poser Formats?

When you say there are no OBJ files associated, do you mean there were none in the zip (in \Runtime\Geometries\somefolder) or that you checked the pp2 file in a text editor to ensure there was no call on an OBJ? A lot of Traveler's items come in multiple parts - there are different versions of the library files for different versions of Poser, which aren't complete installers. Also, removing spaces from the OBJ path and name will help only if you edit the library file to call the revised name - simply removing spaces will make the content even more broken.

Also, don't forget that some of the older stuff has included geometry (the geo is in the pp2 file...there is no external obj). Some of the older stuff wants the geometry file to be in same location as the 'loading' file and not a separate geometry location, too. You can usually tell if a simple prop has included geometry by the p2 file being hundreds of KB to a couple of MB in size...

The best bet is to examine the pp2/cr2/etc in a text editor to see what it is looking for and where it wants it.
