Thank you :)  I just had enough of not really knowing what I already owned. I'm definitely not going to invest in Genesis 9 whenever that comes out, as I'm finding I have a goldmine of characters already.  I'm bogged down with just the A's LOL.

The main thrust of Tropical Storm Cristobal is affecting the Pensacola area now, our winds are pleasantly balmy but we've already gotten a couple inches of rain, with 2-4" more expected. That's fine for us as we were borderline still in drought. But if I disappear, that means we lost internet. Not a problem right now.

And my heavens, I got the weirdest popup! I had to refresh the forum page. I covered it up, but it listed my IP address and a CloudFare issue number. Anyone else got this when trying to post an image? There was NOTHING in that image that was out of the ordinary, it was one of the character renders on the previous page! (Andno, obviously I'm not blocked. If it happens to you, copy your post so you don't lose it and refresh the page.)

I haven't had it happen in the forums before but have had it happen when I was trying to download template files, had to contact CS for that

I've had that exact message trying to download templates for three or four products from my Product Library page! (I raised a ticket for those ones, they claimed there was no problem at their end but it magically started working after the ticket was closed) It's a rather scary message when you know you are not doing anything dodgy.

Yeah they told me the same thing and included a download link as well

I'm usually not into monsters and creatures but I thought this one was funny so I grabbed it. Works fine in Iray with a little adjustment.

Has a lot of character :)  But which one is it? (So others can take a look.)

It looks a lot like Gnasher with the larger teeth hidden.

@ Taoz: Great use of an old character.

Amy-Lee (Victoria 8)        dForce Flounce Bikini (G8F)     dForce Bristol Hair

Note I'm not doing dForce on either of these two, just trying to get the characters rendered so I'm not using extreme poses. This is a character I wasn't sure about, and I don't like the baked on blush. That is not natural, and I wish vendors would have that option. So for me, this isn't a closeup character I will be using.

Okay, so far as not seeing hair in the viewport, about that tessalation thing-with Bristol Hair be sure and open the bones in Scene to select BristolHairDF and not the main label.  I went in to Parameters and then increased the Line Tesselation under General. In case you're interested, here's two threads on that issue. One and this one.

I did a lot of work with the lips, too. They are very dry but I think it's the lighting as I'm seeing it characters rendered with this light. I changed the glossy color to 217 / 211 / 183 to a dull yellow gray, instead of almost white. Added Metallic Flakes Weight to .040, the Density to 1.40, the Thin Film 232.37 (I have no idea what that does?)  I turned the Reflectivity up to .90.

Yes, it's that one.  It was in the PC+ for a day $1.99 category, not anymore it seems but it will probably be back in a catchup.

Oh, and here's the environment and the cigar

I'm teaching myself to make Strand Based Hair in DAZ Studio and I finallky got the basic fur correct but I do need to make it disappear around the eyelids, lips, ends of the flippers, nose and also make it shorter on the head, muzzle, and flippers.

Since a lot of you live near seals (manatees too) near the beach I thought this was a bit funny and summer beach time appropriate.

I want to also make the seal's (sea lion's) fur changable between a) dry, clean, a bit puffy b) dry, matted, a bit puffy, c) wet, clean, slick, d) wet, matted, slick using SBH presets that change the already loaded SBH and aren't loading a different SBH (I can do it that way but I prefer preset change existing already loaded preset over preset remove existing if loaded preset and then load new preset).

You can also see the DAZ Seal don't have the flexibility of a real sea lion or seal either.

Aliet for Leisa 8        Wild Waves Hair (G8F)        The Strongroom

Aliet has many options, such as translucency, lightening palms and soles of feet, specular, etc. The eyes have great detail. I dulled her teeth slightly as I don't like Pepsodent white.

Wild Waves Hair, I took the forehead section off in Surfaces wtih Cutout Opacity, there wasn't anything in Scene but I didn't check Parameters.

I'd recommend Everyday Poses and Expressions for Genesis 8 Female and Gia 8, as there's a nice variety.

If you want a pirate room, consider The Strongroom. Lots of crates and barrels, typical of historical times. The Pro-Studio HDRI lights work well, but here's a tip- keep your character facing FRONT and rotate the ROOM. We covered that years ago in my thread- set the light up like you want it and then make the set adjust to the light. I merely hid a wall, then grouped the shelf and its contents (Create>Group after you select all in Scene) then moved a barrel to the front to add to the DOF illusion.

Does anyone know the name of this outfit? It didn't load in Scene with the name and I moved on before I realized it.

    The outfit is https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-buccaneeress-pirate-outfit-for-genesis-8-female-s

I used it last night and had a glorious explosion while it built the simulation data, even before it moved. I just cleared the data, and left the outfit alone. Looked fine without simulation.

And I have had issues when I try to attach images, generally because Google has been 'so kind' as to log me out of the forum between me starting my entry and attaching my file.

@memcneil70  thanks! I kept looking under "pirate" and couldn't remember what else to look under. On the tip of my tongue but couldn't quite get there. I'll go link it.

I think it might be an anti-spam measure maybe? The number of posts you've made might have triggered it. I'm loving the renders by the way! I'm seeing characters that I've purchased that I hadn't rendered yet and you make me want to render them soon. I'm seeing other characters that I didn't even realize where in the store that are now in my wish list. :)

Thanks. The sheen on the seal is the glossy adjustments on the SBH iRay shader materials. I find it difficult to make fur as light colored as it should be sometimes with SBH so I'll gave to keep adjusting the shader settings but also 'fluffy' fur looks lighter than 'slicked' fur but 'fluffy' fur should look lighter still. I probably need to make two or three layers of diffirent fur types.

Thanks @divamakeup  glad you found some you like. I don't know if it was a spam thing or not, the number of images certainly could have triggered it, that's for sure LOL. It was spaced out from about 5am to 6pm (all day) so it wouldn't have been the frequency. There was usually 45 minutes to an hour in-between.

BTW guys, I am offline for a good part of today, as expected, the internet went down. I LOVE this part of a tropical storm though- the winds are balmy at 35 mph gusts and the tree tops go perfectly still then start blowing. 35mph isn't even a thunderstorm for Florida, and the rain comes and goes. Cristobal is already off the coast and scooting up, we're in that last final band of rain here at 4am. But with no internet, I'm using my phone hotspot just for a few minutes. I also have to work on getting some packages done for the troops, household chores, etc. But I am also going to finish the A's while I work so there'll be more gals coming later today or tonight.

@fishtales  The Orangery is definitely a lovely setting, thanks for sharing. Maisie needs some company LOL!  Or she could be a preoccupied hostess getting ready for the big event...

Amira (G8F)         Peyton Hair (G8F)            Dayana and Karina Bloom (HD) (G8F)   THOSE CHARACTERS COME WITH THIS GORGEOUS DRESS!

I've already added these back in the "A" list.

Yes, the dress is included with Dayana and Karina, and there's more than one! Also what appears to be a swimsuit!  (Only $5.49 back on May 11th, looking at the chart.)

I frankly don't like the default Peyton Hair, the ends are really choppy and the strands seem clumpy and a bit oily. It will appear differently under other lights perhaps, but obviously I prefer hair which looks good regardless of the lighting.  To me the ends in back are really stiff and awkward looking. You'd definitely want to play with the settings- any suggestions on what you do with hair that is clumpy? What works best?

I think she'd look decent as a kid, the eyebrows are subtle.

Btw, here's a tip I have linked on the first page, my References under "Tips."  How to make the breasts look more childlike when using Growing Up. I'll be posting the Amira child in a few minutes, just a headshot.

What a cutie! And I do think the brows work well for a child. Not too manicured and attention-getting. I always do the Growing Up heads at 97%. The heads are too big in my opinion. Even though kids' heads are disproportionately large I think it's too large.

Amanda (G8F)         Bblythe Hair (G8F)       dForce Casual Springtime Outfit  (G8F)

    I changed the color of the top, used 161 / 191 / 174  and then for the trim 109 / 126 / 120
The expression is Mouth Open 9, BJ Sina Smile 35.7 and Blair Smile 2 at 53.1   I arched one brow for the asymmetrical "He's looking over here, what'll I do..." hint of expression, as said as an aside to a girlfriend next to her. I laughed after it rendered as I can just picture the scenario.

I do find with her sharp cornered mouth the expressions need to be dialed back a bit more, no extreme numbers on the sliders. I like her teeth, they look quite natural.

The outfit hangs quite nicely, no dForce used.

Novica, I have been collecting bluejuante's characters and I am ashamed to say, I never thought to try Growing Up on them. I think you just proved to me that regardless of PA, I need to do a default test to a child for each adult just to see if they are good that way too. Your Amira child is darling. And if that is the same hair, I am amazed at the difference from the first render.

I'm guilty of not exploring that very often too @memcneil70   :)

Here's a character that actually looks quite different than the promos, and that's why I am rendering those I am not sure about using. This next one is:

    Andrea (G8F)       Evelyn Hair (G3F / G8F)

EDIT- The camera did get changed so the Focal Length was under 100, here's the corrected one at 110 (first render)

I have to say up front I hope I am wrong, but I could NOT FIND A DEFAULT MAKEUP that was neutral. This is the default, and I intensely dislike it. I don't want that blue gray eye area below the brow. Virtual World does something interesting, you apply a mask and can choose 20, 40, 60, 100 percents and that is how strong the eyemakeup will be. But again, keep in mind, their is no NEUTRAL.

Evelyn Hair looks very natural to me, almost didn't pick it in Content Library because the thumbnail looks a bit cartoony/harsh. Give it a try!

This first one is the default load. Look at the color above her eyes. Can someone check to see if they get a flesh color, and if so, where did you find it?

You have a choice of using LIE eyebrows also.

Ignore the other posts, the focal length was wrong.

Mine does not look anything like the promos, the camera wasn't that closeup (I backed it so the nose wouldn't be huge) but perhaps that came into play.

It sure looks like you have a short focal length on your camera, which will distort the features and make a beautiful girl look ugly. Select your render camera in the Scene pane and open the Parameters pane. Then look at the Camera section in the Parameters pane. If you have a Focal Length (mm) under 100, I'd suggest changing it to 100 and the adjusting the camera framing to get the face in the frame. Be sure you don't adjust the framing in a way that changes the focal length again. You need to Dolly Zoom the camera, not Focal Zoom the camera.  You Dolly Zoom by left mouse click and drag on the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the viewport. Right mouse click and drag will Focal Zoom, which can cause the distortion of the face. My suggested value of 100 is not magic. You can use something smaller or larger. Larger values will flatten the features and smaller values will tend to exaggerate the features (the prominent nose is a symptom of this exaggeration).

    G8F Flocal Length 40 mm

    G8F Focal Length 100 mm

Andrea (G8F)      with CB Thyme skin and Celie Eyes. I'm not going to link those because it would be a bit misleading for people doing forum searches. But she has natural skin this way, no blue gray over the eyes. Going to try a Growing Up.

I have Andrea and I am loading her up now. My test render of her back in Dec 2018, was never converged, I think the background was at fault, but I still saved it. So I will do a fresh render. Do you have the Great Lashes for Genesis 8 Females product? It is one of the required items.
