do mirrors cause longer render times?

I did a simple set up where my G2F figure was standing in front of a mirror. nothing else in the scene. 4 hours later and the render was only 50% complete. I wondered if mirrors normally increase render times?

Thanks.

Not to that extent in my experience.

What did you have in the Scene?

I had loft for lease add on by predatron. I had victoria 6 hd addon , clothed, standing in front of the mirror. Some lights that came with the loft for lease also were there.

It can, especially with Uber lighting and render settings and HD anything in the scene. Try turning off the HD first, then look at the lights you're using and replace UberEnvironment with AA if possible.

Try switching on Progressive render in the Render Settings pane, in the Advanced tab.

That loft did take a while to render the last time I had a go at it, although I think not as long as yours. Something else that can send render times through the roof, apart from light settings and that HD Genesis2, are the materials themselves. Reflections (especially reflections of reflections in the mirror) might not be obvious in a render, but it all adds to the calculation time. The sunlights also have to be considered, passing through all those windows.

And that's without having to crunch the numbers for the Dance Studio textures, which are even shinier and glossier, and take even longer to render...
