Thanks for the comment on Lost Horizon, Stezza.  You have done amazing work on Diomede's critter!

I was going to take a break from Carrara for a while, but now the Nessie temptation may be too great. :)

    Wow! everybody's cooking.

Varsel, your dragon is welcome to live in my backyard. I'm glad cute cryptids are getting love too.

Diomede, love your cute sea beastie!

UB, the drama of your scene is wonderful, and those filter results are amazing.

Stezza, the texture on Nessie is excellent.

I, too, started with a sea beast, but I need a boat to go hunting first.

Found this yacht in Carrara's mesh objects.

Borrowed a steering wheel from a car in the objects. Played with smoothing and shaders. Need more gear, lol.

Oh wow, an explosion of cryptids indeed!

Stezza - Wokadeemas looks pretty ferocious. I think that deer has a good chance to escape, but it better be quick, yikes!

Bunyip - Very prolific. You are creating your own Cryptidpedia! Nice backlighitng on the Gargoyle.

Headwax - Great point of view for the start of your Big Foot comp - looking great.

Diomede - Satyr looks great, thanks for the step by step. Great final image. Thanks for the lake monster!

Varsel - That dragon is adorable! I love the lighting.

UnifiedBrain - Lost Horizon - looks great. Cool composition and use of filters.

Cbird - looking forward to where this will lead...

Still formulating an idea, been googling cryptids off and on all week.

Came across one possibility, behold, 'The Texas Woofus':

"The Texas Woofus in Dallas is a longhorned pig-legged sheep-bird"

Diomede, Steve K, not to call you out, but I think you might be familiar with the Dallas Texas area? Is the Texas Woofus something that causes you to tremble at night when it's lights out?

DesertDude, that's hilarious. Do you think they are turduckens in their juvenile stage?

Came across this today. A beastie for our times:

Amabie: The Japanese monster going viral http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20200422-amabie-the-japanese-monster-going-viral

    Lol Wendy smiley

Think I'm leaning towards the ferocious Texas Woofus, but mine will be the reject Woofus, the one that wants to be nice and fly over rainbows and have tea parties and such.

it's fun seeing how to change the shape, it is tricky in parts with some dense mesh areas but don't let that stop you... pull and pushing polys with soft selection ticked is awesome yes

    Terrific stuff, everyone.

Special shout outs to Stezza for morphing the lake beastie and to Bunyip for gathering all the boat freebies.

Speaking of boat freebies, here is a free toon submarine.  See attached zip.

Thank you, Stezza, UB, DesertDude, Bunyip and CBird for the kind comments.  Hope everyone is being prudent and safe.  I found a copy of The Carrara Bible (for Carrara 1) in the bottom of a closet here.  Amazing.  It does not have the disc of resources though.  That is why I made the submarine.  The book has a tutorial walk through of a sub scene.  Will try to adapt it for the challenge.

Veronika, a bit of akvis sketch and a bit of graphic novel ~ both in PSE

the background & foreground is akvis with the layer set at around 60% over the original

Leon & Thingee are graphic novel ( fine ) with the layer set at around 50% over the original... then Ctrl-Alt-Shift & E to get a flattened image on top which I then applied a graphic novel filter again and set at around 50% over the original..

if that all makes sense wink

Thank you for the reply. Alas, I don't use Photoshop. Sadly "Graphic Novel" in Filter Forge is absolutely different effect. Akvis Sketch is very nice soft, I often use it, but it has many limitations.

    Lake Monster Update

Pick your favorite lake.  Nessie from Loch Ness?  Champie from lake Champlain?  Wherever your favorite spot is, get your toon yellow submarine and find that Cryptid.

    * some Carrara features used that I don't usually think of include

    - light cone effect for the toon light

    - cloudy fog for the bottom of the lake

Will show how I made the lake terrain in a later post.

EDIT:  Is this too dark?  Looks a little different to me now that I see it on the forum.

    test render lake monster 01.jpg
