Using Props:  the umbrella, the sandy bottom and the ship.  Deviney waves brushes and a school of fish and a turtle added from Pixabay in postwork  because I don't own those in Daz, yet.   I call this "Navigating," because I feel like we're all trying to navigate through some choppy waters right now.

Ooo Rainbow unicorn, I love it :3

Skipped this competition, my ideas didn't want to look on my screen how I imagine them.

I have a few super late questions about modifiers/d-formers:

Is there a way to associate more modifications to the same slider? For example, if I used push modifiers to make horns or elf ears or something like that which would require modifying the basic model 2 places.

You can have two or more active dForms and when you use Spawn Morph it will create a single morph that is the compound effect of the dForms

I might not have watched the videos carefully enough but wasn't clear, can these modifiers be used on dForce objects? Like to change the basic shape and use dforce simulation after the modifier is applied, or the opposite: first dforce stuff and then modify it with the modifier?

Yes, dForce will stack with other modifiers - once a mesh is dForce you can do anything to it, and if you run a simulation it will drape over the morphed or dFormed shape of the target items.

I saw the questions but I wasn't 100% sure on the answers so I wanted to be sure you got the answers you needed.

    LEARNING ISSUES AND QUESTIONS:

I have been using DAZ for ~1 month now (noob), may I please ask everyone/anyone to answer any/all of the following questions.

    1. Is there a way to change the Teradome3 atmosphere to a manual background space image (e.g. with a couple distant alien planets)?

    2. Are there any eyes available for E. Dragon, that I can apply directly within DAZ?

    3. Is there a way to change the saturation of the render colors within DAZ?

    4. Is there a way to apply a gloss layer to the Orc, such that he appears wet or shiny?

    5. Is there a way to create a spotlight shining at the escaped Orc?

=>Was thinking of applying the spotlight from Render Studio volumetric plus.

    6. Would Bionicle/robot arms and legs work on the Plague wolf HD (he is a G8M)?

=>I was thinking I would like to create some half-altered bio-tech beasts.

    -

The image file is16:9, (was UltraHD range 7Kx4K and 32bit), but I had to shrink it and transform it to 24bit JPG for it to upload.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I did,

    Thank you!

    1. I am not positive as I don't own that perticular product. That said, I would check the surfaces pane. If it has a material zone to the dome then you could add other images (as long as they work with the mapping on the item) That said, I am not 100% sure on how the product was created. You could try putting in a support ticket/question on it if no one else has it to answer.

    2. Eastern Dragon is an older set that was made for 3Delight. Is there a specific issue you were having? Were you trying to use it with Iray and ran into an issue. If so, it is likely the issue that katiedelongwriter mentioned above.

    3. katiedelongwriter address this as well and tone mapping is the best place to play/adjust what you are asking from within DS.

    4. In Iray you would try adjusting or playing with Glossy Layered Weight, Glossy Reflectivity, and Glossy Roughness (as well as Glossy Color) within the surfaces pain. You would need to select all the material zones you want it to apply to and then play with the Weight and Roughness settings for the mostpart. Use the Roughness setting to "tone it down" or ramp it up to your liking just don't go too too low on Roughness or it may make it look too glossy or somewhat plastic.

    5. Yes. Within DS there are lighting tools at the top...for more information on lighting in DS, try looking at previous lighting challenges here in the NU Challenge forum. It should have some useful tutorials. If not, let me know and I'll dig some up but just to get you started:

    6. In theory "yes" if the arms etc are made for G8 as well as Plague Wolf. That said, it may depend on how extremely the wolf is morphed as to how well it would or would not work. They should apply etc if both are made for the same base figure. I am just not 100% sure (if the Wolf is morphed so that it is way different than G8s shape) if there would be any gaps or maybe issues I can't forsee. It "should" work though. (Sadly again I have neither to try a trial run to be more certain for you)

To your question about dragon eyes, are you having the issue where eyes come up an opaque color? If so, do a forum search here- there's a specific thing you need to change in the shader for the eye that will allow the eye to be transparent, that will make the eyes appear the way they should. I've had that happen on a bunch of my daz dragons- it's not that eyes need to be purchased as a separate product, but that the top layer, the water layer that makes them bright and glossy, sometimes loads as opaque rather than transparent. To your question about render color saturation- yes, you should be able to change that within Daz. If you go into your render settings in the render pane/menu before you render, there's a menu called "Tone Mapping" (If I remember- it's 2nd to last on the L side. The last one is where you apply HDRIs and environmental lighting, and the 2nd to last is where you change exposure, film grain, saturation, and overall tweak the "look" of your future render.). In the tone mapping menu, you can adjust exposure, saturation, ISO (grain), and use simulations of old-school film/darkroom techniques to fine-tune the aesthetic of the render. If you are working in the Iray preview mode, you can preview the effect, and when you've got it close enough, start your render. I'm sorry I don't remember the exact settings to change- I'm away from my render computer right now, so I can't check the specific names in the menu.

    REPLY TO katiedelongwriter

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR THOUGHTS!

Sorry for the late reply, it was a hectic week.

Those particular dragon eyes are all black (pupil, iris and sclera).  I've since ontained lots of eyes lol, but have not sifted through them to see which ones will work.

=>Shader for the eye that will allow the eye to be transparent - OK, EXCELLENT to know I'll search for those terms, and perhaps I can find HOW TO CHANGE THEM to transparent.

=>Tone Mapping: THANK YOU!!! Yes, I see it in my DAZ 4.12. That sounds like an extremely important subsection of options. Geez, I'm truely a noob, I have got to find more youtube videos to learn more about using the rendering tab/pane.

(I collected this comment as a knowledge reference, and will ponder your insights further)

    Thank you!

    REPLY TO: Smoerebroet

That is so incredibly creative, I LOVEEEE IT!!! Even without the missing stars, it is still great.

I understand tho, something goes wrong for me almost every time - I'm still learning - but people have been great about helping me learn.

Hopefully someone will help you solve the problem.

    Thank you

LEARNING ISSUES AND QUESTIONS, REPLY TO: DAZ_ann0314

    EXCELLENT ADVICE THANK YOU!!!

I just collected your reply into a word document as a knowledge reference on these issues, and am contemplating the reply from "katiedelongwriter" as well.  The eyes are all black, and I'm not sure why, so I added 2 red iris's to the dragon after rendering the image.

Dragon = old  ... lol, yes, but I have a goal of systematically testing the various characters I've purchased so far, and creating "subscenes" for them, then a photo reference - so that I can quickly identify them and add them to a scene if needed.

=>RE: "In Iray you would try adjusting or playing with Glossy Layered Weight, Glossy Reflectivity, and Glossy Roughness (as well as Glossy Color) within the surfaces pain." - I learned about this a bit in the DAZ shader tutorial, but I will definitely be doing some more research into these aspects of DAZ and testing them out.

=>RE: Lighting – I’m in the process of learning more about lighting and testing various DAZ products I’ve purchased recently. I collected your link, thank you. I’m going to collect many more YouTube tutorial links on the subject.

=>RE: Wolf – Good to know. I’ve purchased a few DAZ tools, mesh grabber, (also magnets and converters recently) that might help and will experiment soon.

    THANK YOU!!!

  • Congratulations showcased!! Really inspired across the board!

Happy to help. I spend most of my time in Tone Mapping once I've got my composition laid out- I have to admit I'm not very good at working with the simulations, push modifiers, etc. yet. Hopefully I'll do something more complicated next year for Intermediate. Were you able to get your eyes where you wanted them?

And great job, guys! You guys had some really clever, nuanced posing and composition in here that really impressed me. Such creativity!

Wow, thank you for choosing me to be showcased.blush Congratulations to all the other showcased artists and to the other participants too. It is not easy to come out and show one's work.smiley

One question - why do some of the showcased images lead to different images when clicked on to show the full size, and some lead to the correct full sized images, please?

  • It does appear that the Intermediate images are crossing to the April challenge images.
