Daz Instal manager problems. Mac
Hi All,
I recently got a new mac pro laptop. And decided to do a clean install of Daz and all the related files. For the sake of simplicity at the moment. I'm just going to keep my question confined to the Olympia Bundle that I just purchased and installed.
To preface this. This is a brand new apple laptop right from the manufacturer. And all the System software and Daz software should be up to date unless something new came out very recently.
The problem I see. Is the olympia bundle. Which I installed using the little green button on the product page of my account. Appears to have installed all the olympia stuff in the old content library. Am I mistaken, or isn't all the newer stuff in particular supposed to go into smart content? Now I just let the installer run. Figuring it knows where its supposed to go and put stuff. So I didn't knowingly make any changes to the settings.
Question 2nd part: Now that the olympia stuff seems to be in the content library, rather than smart content. Isn't so much of a problem. Now that after spending a considerable amount of searching for it I know where it is. But I can't seem to find the hair textures. Ive tried both Thalia hair, and persephone hair. The figures are there and apply correctly. But I can't find the textures anywhere. I've done a line by line search of the pose library. And as it should work in smart content. By bringing up the textures by selecting the figure I get nothing.
Now theres a few other goofy things about the Install manager, Like the fact that all the genesis figures appear to be in the content library, rather than in smart content. But lets just see if theres an explanation for the olympia problem. Maybe the others will fall into place.
Thanks in advance
Dale

I take it that you used the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) to install the content, which is what you mean by the green button?
I am not on a Mac, but I can be a little help until a Mac users turns up. ALL content will appear in the Content Library, regardless if it has Metadata (Smart Content) or not. Some of the older content did not have Metadata for a while, but that has been sorted out over the last year or so, Olympia is a Genesis 2 Bundle, and as such, will definitely have Metadata, and should therefore appear in Smart Content as well as the Content Library.
Do your other products show in Smart Content, almost all of them should by now?
To find out what exactly was installed, and to where, run the DIM, go to the Installed tab, find the Olympia bundle in the list of installed products, right-click on it, and select 'Show Installed Files'. That will give you a list of files, and where they were installed to.
You may need to reimport your Metadata to update the database to get the newly installed products to show up in Smart Content, but I will let another Mac user tell you how to do that. It may be the same way as on a Windows machine, but if you don't get any other replies, I will tell you how I do it on a PC.
Hmmm. I was hoping they had that re-importation of Meta Data problem licked by now. I had a bit of a problem with that back when they first came out with smart content.
But thanks for the suggestion. Right now none of the olympia stuff is showing in smart content. So maybe thats the problem
Thanks
Dale
Hi all,
Well I did the re-import meta data thing. And I think a few more things are showing up in the smart content. But so far I'm still not seeing the persephone, or thalia hair there. And when I load it from the content library. I'm still not seeing the textures. A quick note. With earlier problems I did have to uninstal the CMS, and trash the data base. That I haven't tried yet.
Where should Olympia be located in the smart content anyway? When I check "people". Which is where logic would suggest it should be located. All i see is Michael 3.0 Base, and millennium boys and girls. All of which I have little use for. You would think that all the genesis figures and series 4 figures would be there. But there not.
I have to admit, I'm getting a little tired of having to jump through hoops to make Daz work all the time.
Thanks,
Dale
Hello Dale.
I never use Smart Content, but I just looked, and all of my figures are under Default > Figures > People > Female (and Male), and that includes Genesis, Genesis 2, V4, A5 and V6.
See if you can find them there.
Ahhhh. Ok. Well I still don't see Olympia. Or Vicky 4. But I do see Michael 4, and some of the genesis.
It appears that some of that depends on if you have files. or products selected at the top of the screen. Though I can't say as I understand the difference between the two. I think Daz does some of this just to confuse people more.
I can't say as I like smart content much either. But one thing thats nice. If a hair is selected. Then all the associated files and textures pop up making it easier to handle.
Maybe I'll have to try and toss the CMS, and reinstall all that. Groan......
Thanks
Dale
The core idea of Smart Content is, that only products which apply to a selected figure appear when that figure is selected.
If you want to see ALL Smart Content, make sure that you have nothing selected in the Scene pane. If you have Genesis loaded and selected, then ONLY items which apply to Genesis will appear. The same applies to other figures too. Deselect everything in the Scene, and any Smart Content that you have installed will appear.
I generally use the Content Library, since everything appears there anyway. It is just a case of knowing whether it is DAZ Studio Format (Genesis, Genesis 2 and their characters), or Poser Format (Anything before Genesis, V4, M4, V3, M3 etc.)
Sometimes I have to follow my own advice here too, but your DB may be corrupted, it can happen quite easily.
Hi,
I understand the selection process for smart content. It does have some limitations. Making it difficult if not impossible to use props and figures with characters there not intended for.
I've never noticed the content showing up in both the content library, and the Smart content. I have Daz installed on my desk top computer too. And Genesis figures only ever showed up in the smart content. The clean install on my laptop actually is a test to decide if I want to try that on my desktop computer. The Install manager doesn't work properly with my desktop, at all. On my laptop the genesis figures are showing up in the content library, or at least some of them are.
On that last bit. I tried that. And it may be to technical for me. I don't see any useful info there. Maybe theres just to many bits and pieces. If it just said olympia was placed in the pose folder it would make sense. But I'm seeing like 50 lines of information showing once you right click on it
Still planning to toss the cms in the trash, and try a clean import of the Meta data. CMS is far to finicky in my opinion. At least on the Mac. I've never had any problems with corrupted Databases that I can tell. But Since Daz went to version 4. Daz has gotten progressively more difficult to work with
Thanks,
Dale
All of the Genesis figures, can be found in DAZ Studio Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > People in the Content Library pane.
My People folder contains folders for Genesis, Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male, that is the only place they have ever been installed to. The DAZ Install Manager installs all of it's files by default into a folder called My DAZ 3D Library, and it should show that folder at the top of the page when you right click and use the Show Installed Files option.
The list are all clickable links (at least on Windows) and will take you directly to the folder when clicked on. I don't have Olympia, so I can't tell you where everything is installed to.
If you have installed to 'My DAZ 3D Library', are you sure that it is listed as BOTH Poser Formats and DAZ Studio Formats in your Content Directory Manager (Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager)?
When I did the clean install I skipped all the poser cf files. Figuring there for poser, correct. and duplicate.
But with the Olympia bundle I let the installer, install everything.
The files are installed to My Daz 3d library. right clicking in dim does take me to a list of files. And brings up the folder there in. But except for proving there there. I don't see much usefulness in this. Looking at the hierarchal file on persephone hair, its mydaz3dfiles, data, michelle(no idea why michelle), hair, persephone, morphs, michelle, base...
As for the rest. Let me trash the whole cms. And re-install the database. run the meta data reinstallation. See if that fixes it.
Thanks
Dale
I just reset the database inside Daz. I was going to find the database and physically move it to the trash. But i can't find it, that way. So i reset it. and i reimported the meta data. And still no persephone or, thalia hair i smart content. I haven't found olympia herself, though a few of the outfits are showing up. Rose thorn i see and jungle girl.
no matts for the hairs yet either as far as i can tell. the hair is in the content library under hair, genesis 2 hair. but no textures.
Im at a loss what to do next. I haven't been buying a lot from adz lately. If they don't get this straightened out. I'll just stick with V4, and by my content from Rendorosity or one of the others

Hello again Dale.
Any hair that I have for Genesis or Genesis 2 (Male or Female) is installed to the same place, Materials and all.
For example, in the Content Library pane, I have Toulouse Hair for G2F. It is located at DAZ Studio Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > People > Genesis 2 Female > Hair > Toulouse Hair. The Materials for that hair are located in the same place
DAZ Studio Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > People > Genesis 2 Female > Hair > Toulouse Hair > Materials
ALL of the Hair items, have a sub-folder called 'Materials', and that applies to Genesis (original) as well. I can't see how your Materials wouldn't be there, or that the folder has been changed?
If you scroll down the list of 'Show Installed Files' inside DIM, it starts with a lot of 'data' entries, but then, if you look further down the list, you should see (Osaka as an example)
/People/Genesis/Hair/Osaka Hair/Materials/Hair MATs/Blonde.duf
There can sometimes be problems with Smart Content for one reason or another, but the Content Library should display everything that is on your disk. Please look in the folders at the path I have shown, I am sure that you will find Thalia and Persphone in there.
