Billboard Trees are only horrible if you render them from the front to create a billboard for a flyover. If you render them from the top.....

Granted much depends on how full your canopy is. I highly recommend Inagoni's Baker for Carrara for this as you get normal maps as well for your billboards which gives them some perceived depth.

Note if you are using motion blur not many will be able to tell the difference. Now if it is a slow speed chase, that may change how you do it.

they zipping over the landscape, until they clash.

going to need canopy for Expansion shots, too. really, lots of usage for a good tree canopy.

Baker is a Plug-in, part of the Advance Pack (http://www.daz3d.com/advance-pack) or available separately direct from Inagoni. Without it you can simply create a "Splat" in Carrara.

Note that even with Baker, you are still creating a splat. LOL

Crazy Ivan is a Russian Submarine Maneuver, or are you referring to the incorrect reference in Firefly? LOL

Hey I didn't make up the splat as used in Carrara, but that is the word to search the docs for. LOL.
