Want to make a swimsuit like this... but with ability to change color.

I wish I could make a swimsuit with a similar pattern to the ones shown here:

But the one gimmick that I would love is to be able to change the colors of each part of the pattern. If only clothing was easy to make for Daz Studio as it is for Second Life.

A bodysuit and transparency maps could give you the basic shape if don't have the ability to model the suit.

The ability to change color depends upon the suit's material zones. If the suit doesn't have the material zones, your only option is to create the texture map in either a 2 or 3D paint program and apply it as you would any texture map.

I am completely new to 3d modeling. I do not know how to put material zones on an object, especially a flat texture map. And what do you mean by "bodysuit?" Is it something I need to buy in the daz store?

Depending on the DAZ figure you are using, there are full length bodysuits in the marketplace and you can add transparencies to the textures to hide parts. All clothing in the marketplace have material zones, some more than others. You do realize you cannot use any DAZ models in second life, correct?

I don't model (yet) so I do the Polygon Group Editor. You simply select the polygons and name them as a group and they are a material zone which can have textures applied over in the Surface tab. Here's one link, and I'm sure there are YouTube videos. I did a detailed step by step in one of my Art Studio threads, but with 3 previous and one current thread, each with 1500 posts, I'm not searching :)

I know. In fact, I am probably just going to make a suit for the SL avatar and use the Firestorm viewer; I can't create scenes in Daz anyway and I won't waste my money on Vue, which I believe may be more rich in features than Bryce, which I already have. Why create scenes from scratch when Second Life has a million for you to choose from? I have seen that the Firestorm Viewer for SL is great for photography and creating a decent photorealistic environment.

I have yet to see a screengrab (sorry, "render") from Second Life that looks even remotely realistic. Results from SL look like they came out of an old 3D game engine at best.
