Discussion: The title refers (loosely) to the classic 1937 movie with Ronald Coleman.  There was no Yeti in the movie, but there should have been. :)  The oriental structure is Matsumoto Castle by sugatak.  The plane is a DC-2, same as in the movie.  It was a freebie at sharecg.  The Yeti is Abominable for Genesis (the product is a morph without any hair or textures).  The starry BG is Dart's freebie texture map applied to a transparent sphere.  Carrara processes include terrain, hair. and aura.  The GMIC/filter stack was Color>Basic Adjustments, Toon 3, LyleJK, Freaky Details, and Black & White.

    No postwork.

    Artist:  UnifiedBrain
    Links to WIP thread:  https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/5608196/#Comment_5608196
Discussion: The premise in the TV show Grimm is that since the very beginning of human history, there has existed a parallel species, called Wesen (VES-sin).  Wesen appear to be human, but have an animal-like nature that can only be seen by humans if Wesens choose to reveal it.  Mostly they keep their secret hidden, but mistakes happen, and they are seen occasionally, resulting in the cryptid legends such as Yeti, Anubus, Chubicabra, etc..

The characters, from left to right, are G2M, G2F, M4, V4, and Genesis.  The Wesen species are, from left to right - Skalengeck, Bauerschwein, Hundjager, Hexenbiest, and Aswang.

Note - In the show, famous people have sometimes been Wesen.  I had fun imagining Sherlock Holmes as a Hundjager.

Carrara processes include hair, text, clouds, bulge modifier, and aura.  No postwork.

    Discussion:

Not all cryptids are grim. :)  This is the original version of Star, gliding over Castle Royal.  Rendered the background separately, then loaded it a on a plane, and added the character in the foreground.  Used a couple of GMIC filters (Basic Color, Dream Smoothing), and Carrara processes (aura, text, lens flare, terrain, and hair).

Lots of indirect light, no postwork..

    - Creating body hair and beard for the conforming bodysuit for G2M - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/5545581/#Comment_5545581

Discussion:  Satyr's have been depicted in art since the ancient days.  When I started doing background research, much of the Greek pottery and sculpture was NSFW.  That gave me the idea of doing a NVIATWAS image, and its always fun to change what the letters stand for. Normal Vicky in a Treescape with a Satyr.  To create the Satyr, I modeled a conforming bodysuit for G2M with replacement legs and then created an alpha material zone to hide the lower half of G2M's body.  I then used Carrara dynamic hair for the Satyr - lots of it.  Credits include G2M Michael 6 and G2F Vicky 6 and some clothes for G2F available in the Daz store.  The background is Yosemite HDRI for Carrara also available in the Daz store.

Discussion - Everything custom made in Carrara.  Carrara functions used include vertex modeling, UVMapping, 3D Painting, and creating dynamic hair for the cyclops (Brash and Moxie were modeled for previous challenges).  Also used Carrara terrain modeler, Carrara volumetric clouds, and Carrara realistic sky and sunlight.  It looks better on my machine when clicked for larger size.  Brash Lonergan and Moxie Espinosa venture to the frontier planet of Cyclopedia.

Discussion: Lake monsters seem like the ultimate cryptid.  Because of the popularity of Nessie of Loch Ness, it seems like every lake resort needs its own legendary cryptid.  For example, Lake Champlain in upstate New York is supposedly host to Champie.  Everything modeled, uvmapped, and textured in Carrara.  Also used the Carrara ocean, standard grid replicator, Carrara terrain, light cone effects tab and Carrara's 3D Paint.  Please click to see larger size because it does not look correct on my machine while imbedded in the forum but does when go to larger size.

Mmoir's excellent scene was used as the scenery, a sky background from my collection was used (creator unknown), and a Glacial shader was used on the Rock bumps on the Genesis figure. A Loincloth was borrowed from the Sabbatic Goat. Postwork the render was compiled, Topaz Adjust used for detail & colours, then Filter Forge was used for a Non Photo Realistic look.

Use M4, V4 some clothes I found in my runtime and stuff. Minotaur how do you spell that was a statue in a garden https://www.daz3d.com/merlin-s-labyrinth-construction-kit

    - used some statue shaders that I bought at Daz. Now no longer available.....

Statuary and Marble is a set of 42 procedural shaders for Carrara, specially designed to create realistic materials for your architecture or statuary projects. All the shaders are ready to use and require no additional plug-ins. Just click and drag a preset then adjust to preference. S

Post work in photoshop plugins. Topaz Labs - Nik collection and Affinity Pro for tone mapping. Used an inverted depth map for a little haze. The stars made with a free programe called spacescape

Bird made with m4 - cut his head off - stuck a cranes head on - the feet are pinched from a pigeon

The wings are ??? universal  back wings?Feathers on body are alphammapped planes reproduced on M4 body suit.

I used M4 and made his skin transparent so you could see the underlying skeleton - used a bulb to just light the skeleton - littl;e girl in the bed is reused from a Peter Pan render I did a few years ago - (rerendered in a forest though not a bedroom).

Tree is a figtree model I bought a few years ago from a non daz place

I decided to do Bigfoot being interviewed on the Mike Mcnaughton show ( a made up Tv Show)  Bigfoot is the freak with some adjustments three different lots of hair but I toned them down - the final composited image has curtains from StudioParis (Age of Armour) which I was very happy to be part of it's testing team. The buildings are from PhilW's excellent Night City scene.

    https://www.daz3d.com/studio-paris

    https://www.daz3d.com/night-and-day-city - I see this ridiculously cheap at 5.99

used a shadow catcher on the floor. I chose to composit because I am making a veggie garden... no I mean I chose compositing so I could more easily control background elements.

I always learn a lot from these challenges. Everything was made internally in Carrara minus some texture maps created or altered in some 2D software. No post work. Fog primitive as clouds. Chrome reflective horn texture from Carrara's native shaders. Everything could be improved. Ask any questions. Cheers!

The Flying Monkeys - or Apes as they prefers to be called.

They can be found everywhere in the country, but normally in a distance from cities or villages, and are quite shy creatures. They are normally peacefully creatures, unless they feel cornered or are being provoked.

Despite their animalistic look, they are quite intelligent, and does sometimes seek work as henchmen for the various witches in the land.

Hi folks, Entries are now closed, and some cryptids that got away are now slinking off into the shadows. Info on how to vote will appear shortly (I hope). I really loved all the creativity on display and want to say thank you for all the new tips and ideas.

You did a great job, Cbird.  Thank you.  Your chosen theme inspired one of the best collection of submissions in our Carrara challenges, IMHO.  When the time comes to convert this thread to the voting thread, return to your first post above.  Click the icon in the upper right that allows you to EDIT your first post.  You will then be able to change the subject line to include reference to voting.
