Here is the issue. I have a fairly extended project with many pieces and on one of the pieces I have hit a snag. I would appreciate some suggestions on ways to get around it.

The project is a Tarot deck. A roughly Harry Potter-themed deck, and one of the cards features Dobby.

Dobby is not the problem. Nursoda's Eepo comes very close to the description of a House Elf, and has a male morph and a number of different ears and noses, so I am not concerned about being able to represent Dobby.

No, the problem is getting him into a pillowcase, and having it conform (more or less) to a pose. There are, after all, no conforming pillowcases for Nursoda figures. Or for that matter for Michael or Victoria.

Now, it is *possible* with scaling and tweaking and parenting rather than trying to autofit that if there is something *like* a pillowcase, I might be able to use that, even if it is for a different figure entirely. Perhaps something like the Olympian tunic for M2/V2, if there is some way of hiding the belt. (And then probably having to raise the hip until it meets and postworking the hell out of it.)

So does anyone know of any clothing item that looks enough like a pillowcase to be a viable starting point? Or a method of doing this some other way?

Are you using Daz Studio or Poser? If using Poser I'd have the idea of flipping your figure upside down (so the feet are at the top) and use dynamic cloth to drape a pillow case over the feet. Once the sim is done, flip him back upright and he'll be in the pillow case.

If you happen to have bought Cole for ApolloMaximus when it was at RDNA (made by Capsces), Carodan made a free morph pack which has a house elf that may as well be based on Dobby.

ApolloCole using Elf morph w/ Apollo's base skin ran through EzSkin in Poser.

what kind of pose will Dobby be in?

If you are using DAZ Studio, there are these dynamic items that have shapes that could be useful.

Something like the Fantasy wrap could maybe work, possibly with a transmap to make it shorter on the bottom?

Postwork shouldn't be too bad though. I would render the figure in the pose I wanted and draw the pillowcase over top of him.
Let us know how it goes.

How about the Santa Sack from here? http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/8880/
You can scale it and re-texture? Then use deformers to shape it if need be...

There is the free dynamic garbage bag from opitex, you could flip it upside down and try using it.

    Didn't I say? Oh, foo, no I didn't.

DAZ Studio 4.6. I've not yet updated to the version that's now current, but probably will asap.

Never used dynamics. Would rather try just about anything else first.

    Great elf morph, btw.

He's the 2 of Coins, so he'll be dancing/juggling on the beach. Not a sitting pose, anyway. But I'd still rather start from a rigged clothing item from the get-go.

Sickleyield's Towel Chiton for Eepo at Renderosity. Just change the texture from the terry cloth to a flat linen and hide the second layer. It's already got the safety pins, sandals, rope belt, etc., and it's already fitted for Eepo.

I've got the chiton (in fact I commissioned it in the first place) but a chiton isn't a pillowslip and the shape and drape are different.

Still I may have to resort to it. It all depends on if I can fight something else into submission.

Has anyone made a potato sack, as in for a potato sack race? A long shot, I guess, but if there is one, I could see it being re-textured to make a decent pillowcase.

There's actually a rigged burlap sack over at 3DUniverse Cut off the "arms" and the bottom "legs" and it might work if that's the look you're going for. http://www.3duniverse.co.za/store/product/?Toon-Burlap-Sack

That said, it wouldn't look much like the outfits used in the films, which really don't look like they were made from intact pillow cases at all. The sides have been completely split so that it drapes open along the full side except for the very bottom, so it's more a poncho with the bottom ends sewn together than a slipdress. As DestinysGarden recommended above, I'd think the Fantasy wrap would be a good start, or maybe the Valiant talberd.

I would use as pointed out before one of the Dynamic sets with helpers. You could end the Helper pose so the ends joined just as needed for the final drape. To me that is the best option offered so far.

Well, it really does sound like there isn't much of anything out there without resorting to dynamics, which I would really rather not deal with.

So I went in and fought with the Olympians outfit. Scaled, and tweaked, and bullied it into position, and then gave it a lace edge and hit it with the hybrid grunge shaders. I think it turned out fairly acceptable. Would have been nice if there were something a little more up to date to work with, but old as it is, it seems fairly well made.

I really couldn't care less about what was used in the movies. This will do unless i trip over something better, or finally bite the bullet and try to wrestle with dynamics.
