How do I install Free content I found online

I'm new to this so I decided to start with the freebies I can find online until I have a bit more experience. Unfortunately I have no idea how to get my freebie content into Daz3d 4.6. I have been trying to look it up online and none of the tutorials I have found worked. Many are outdated. How do I get content into Daz3d so that I can see it and then use it?

What files need to go where?

Thank you all for your time.

    The quick-and-dirty explanation:

Back in the days of Daz Studio 3, there was a directory called "Content" that held all your characters, props, morphs, lights, and so on. In Studio 4.0, that was renamed to "My Library", if you didn't change the name. I'm going to call this "the content folder" since it could have any name.

Inside the content folder, there are many other folders, including one called "Runtime". That's where most downloads should go.

The files you downloaded should be in a zip file (.zip, .rar, .7z - whatever) unless there's only one file. We'll ignore cases where there's only one file for now. That zip will probably have a folder called 'Runtime" at the very top of the file structure. (Again, we'll ignore the ones that have more than one folder, for now.)

The "Runtime" in your content folder and the "Runtime" in the zip file are essentially the "same" file - you want to merge the two together in the content folder. (You do not want a Runtime folder inside another Runtime folder! That won't work.)

Once you've merged the two folders together, the freebies should show up in your Poser Content. Very few freebies have metadata, so they won't show up in Smart Content.

Hope this helps - it should at least get you started.

There is no simple straight forward way to install third party content (content not made and sold by DAZ) to Studio as there is no way of knowing how it was packaged / zipped. It is a matter of understanding Studio's and Poser's content structure. If you could post a link to one of the freebies I and others here could try walking you through process and answer any specific questions.

I tried that. Both before and just now with no success.

I placed the runtime folder in the following which was empty. There was no files in it including a runtime folder.

    c:/Users/Ramlatus/My Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library

As far as I can tell it did absolutely nothing.

That page changes every day. Permanent link:

(Oh, oh: "Software: Poser 8". It probably won't look as good in Daz Studio without some work on the Surfaces tab.)

Now to download that and see what's there...

    .

    ...okay, I'm back.

Two folders - "for Painter" and "Runtime"
    Two files - "armor.jpg" and "read me.txt"

Always read the readme. In this case, it has the license information, but doesn't have the file structure. At least we know what we can legally do with this model.

armor.jpg is a promo image. We can toss that.

"for Painter" holds what look to me to be texture map files - you would use those if you wanted to change the figure's colour scheme. For now, you can ignore those, but you'll want them if you ever decide to make a new texture for the dragon.

"Runtime" is the folder you need to merge into your own Runtime. Keep the file structure intact.

The question is, where is your Runtime? c:/Users/Ramlatus/My Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library is where it would be in a default install. Did you change that when you installed Daz Studio?

Time to do a bit more research ...

    .

... and I give up. I know there's a way to get Daz Studio to show you where your content folder is (or folders are), but what's laughingly referred to as "documentation" on the wiki doesn't say how.

If this figure was rigged in Poser 8 and uses the encapsulated joint rig rather than the Poser legacy rig, it will not work in DS. This particular rig only works in Poser 8 and up.
