I'm ready! Transferring Gen4 and Genesis content to Genesis2?

Can someone give a clear explanation of the steps needed to transfer my gen4 and Genesis content to Genesis 2?

I see there are quite some products in the store : GenX2, Michael 4 for Gen2 Male, Victoria 4 for G2F, M4 and V4 skins auto converter,...

I want to convert all my old content to G2 :

- V4 + M4 shapes and skins (once these are converted, can I use materials, like eyes or SSS, designed for G2 figures?)

- Genesis shapes and skins

- V4 + M4 + Genesis clothing

- V4 + M4 + Genesis poses

Thanks,
Peter.

For transferring shapes, you will need GenX2, Gen2F/Gen2M GenX2 Addon and the figures you transfer from.

For using Generation 4 (and thus most of Genesis) skins on Gen2F/Gen2M, you will need M4 for Gen2M and V4 for Gen2F respectively. You will still have to load the figure with the skin, save it as Material Preset in DUF and only then you'll be able to load the skin onto your Gen2M/Gen2F. Additionally, there are UV-maps for Gen2M that let you use H5, F5 and D5 skins (http://www.daz3d.com/generation-5-uv-bundle-for-genesis-2-male-s) as well as for Gen2F to use S5 and A5 skins (http://www.daz3d.com/generation-5-uv-bundle-for-genesis-2-female-s). Moreover, Slosh also has most of the Generation 4 and 5 basic shapes (like V4, M4, V5, M5 and so on) converted to Gen2M and Gen2F:

    http://www.daz3d.com/generation-4-legacy-shapes-for-genesis-2-male

For better autofitting of Generation 4 clothes, you will need the same addons as for the skins.

Poses should work out of the box, but will surely need some tweaking.

Additionally, check this thread for transferring characters (I think you can do it in a reversed way too): http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24093/. Hope that helps!

I'm trying to summarize all conversion facts here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/41223/
but, for now is incomplete and messy, I include information (and better order) each time I can.

Out of box, V4 and M4 poses the hands and feet transitions have to be adjusted when used on either Genesis 1 or Genesis 2 figures. Genesis 1 poses when used on Genesis 2 figures hands need to be adjusted. You can tweak these by hand in the parameters tab.

It's not perfect but I like using Handy Dandy to correct the hand and feet transitions. The hands- particularly the thumbs- may still need adjustments but it's a good start and it's quick if you make a custom action which would reside on your menu bar. I like using this script because I usually like to try out several poses before I settle on one.

BTW, it isespecially helpful to make custom actions for the skin conversion scripts for M4 to G2M and V4 to G2F. By creating a custom action, you won't be constantly having to dig through the folder structure to apply the scripts.

Cross figure is also nice. Again, it's a script so custom action is the way to go.

Here is a screen grab comparing a pose from Attitude! used first on V4; then G2F out of box, lastly is after using the Handy Dandy Scripts. Notice thumb is out of wack in both the out of box G2F and with Handy Dandy. Thumb is not as bad is some poses...varies on the original V4 pose.

Soooo, more practical, say I want to transfer a V4 character (morphs + skin) to G2Female :

    With 'GenX2 (+ G2F addon)' + 'Victoria 4 for G2F' + 'V4 skins auto converter for G2F'

    I first load G2F basic
    Change UV to V4
Apply the V4 character (morphs + skin)
    Save as a new character

After this it becomes a G2F character? So I can apply clothing, eyes, hair and poses designed for G2F on this new character?

    Peter.
