Thanks Wendy. With 3dsmax I only have student version amd they will want a percentage of my game sales. It is good to know I can do the things you listed with Carrara and Zbrush which I do own. I hope they improve in the future so i can make a iclone avatar form blender or Carrara.

    Thanks

I assume you know that to use any DAZ mesh items in a game you need this since DAZ meshes are not meant for game design.

yes I assume he knows too since I was posting about using CARRARA created and rigged mesh in iClone which I can and do.
and he was replying to that!

lots happened since that last update that I cannot at the moment post about
    but
    it is all good!
    stay tuned
    when I can
    I will reveal all.

I can as already in the public arena say Carrara rigged figures can be animated in iClone and with the purchase of pipeline you can use the default included iMotions in a game, other content is available with an additional gaming licence for purchase.
Das studio figures created from your own mesh and rigged from scratch using content creation tools also fall into this catagory.
This is what is being discussed here.

Wow if i watch this only video and watch back to what is disposable at daz today.
daz3d software will look old and very antiquated. :coolmad:
if nothing happened soon we have to move to RL 's forum and leave this place behind.
    ah to bad.

as usual creativemodelsbe, I have no idea what you are talking about
    I believe you use Blender
if DS or any other software suite does not do something Blender does
why not just use simply Blender.

    Yeah Wendy is right

I am to a big time user of Carrara too (in combination with iClone) and even use Carrara in my workflow sometimes being a Realusion Certified Content Developer.
I rigged some zbrush sculpts i made in carrara and converted (3dxechange pipe) them to non standard humans for use in iClone without a breeze.
It works great atm so it will be awesome on the next iclone versions!

just an example of a Carrara rigged and uv-ed avatar:

    Hi Wendy,

Can you confirm something for me.

The Xchange pipeline has been updated for facial animation and I just downloaded the patch. Is this all I need to do facial animation for Genesis or do I need to buy the $99 facial character pack in order to do Genesis facial anmation as the other characters do not appeal to me but I definitely want to be able to use Genesis facial animation.

thanks in advance for any answers you can provide as I am confused about what I need to buy... if anything

EDIT: It looks like I need the DUF file that comes with the character pack... unfortunately it doesn't look like it comes separately.... anyway off to install the iClone and 3DXchange updates :)

    read the forum Mangey
I and others tell how to roll your own!
have to anyway for non-Genesis, not hard just takes more work
but you can save the expression profile to reuse
    I do
with the .duf it takes over hour to FBX export from Studio sometimes so I reuse a saved profile and export FBX in minutes

thanks for that info Wendy :)

EDIT: off to read the forum now and I think I will spend the $99 I had earmarked for the character pack on the FaceFilter 3 bundle as that looks amazing!!

    thanks again

    I rolled my own here!
some figures only had a few morphs so you make up combos for the visemes based on the pics for each

"iClone5 Facial Pipeline Power Bundle" versus "iClone 5 Pro" & "iClone 3DXchange5 PRO" - is there any difference other than the Character Pack? DUF and Genesis Extension are free, right?

I don't care much about the characters in the Character Pack, so is there any point in buying it then?

    only "free" with the pack.
but as I said to Mangey, not that hard to do it manually
you need to anyhow for non-Genesis figures

Well the less manual work, the better. There's enough work involved in doing animations already...

    Thanks!

I'm trying to decide whether to invest in iClone for Genesis animation especially for talking animation. If I buy iClone 5 PRO, iClone 3DXchange5 PRO and iClone Facial Pipeline Character Pack is that the same as the iClone5 Facial Pipeline Power Bundle? The reason I ask is that buying these products separately is cheaper than buying the Power Bundle.

    http://www.daz3d.com/iclone5-facial-pipeline-power-bundle

Are there any examples of iClone facial animation compared to Mimic in DAZ and Carrara? The iClone videos of animating Genesis faces don’t seem much better than Mimic examples I’ve seen. What are the advantages of animating Genesis in iClone compared to DAZ and Carrara?

To be honest, I still find the whole iClone bundle a "fumble bundle" ...

From what I've read, the only way to export from iClone (including animations etc.) to anything is through the 3D Exchange PIPELINE. The 3D Exchange PRO "only" offers an export as a static OBJ.

But the $349 deal in the DAZ Store does not contain the PIPELINE, but the "Facial Pipeline Character Pack". It is touted as a 50% off deal, but to me it still is confusing why the $499 Animation Pipeline Bundle (at 30% discount) appears to offer the 3D Exchange PIPELINE, but not the "Facial Pipeline Character Pack" ... or does it ?

Basically, I have the following tools currently in use : DAZ Studio 4.5, Lightwave 11.5 and ZBrush 4.3.

Obviously, I am not really happy with the DAZ <-> LW pipeline, or else I wouldn't look for yet another tools. I have no real issue bringing OBJs back and forth, but rigging & animation doesn't seem to "flow" down the pipeline for me.

So, what is the solution ? I want to use my DAZ content and also the stuff I do in LW. From the information about iClone, I thought that iClone would be a good "middleware" ... any thoughts & advice on that ?

    Cheers,
    Andreas

I think the $349 package includes iClone5 Pro, 3DXchange5 Pro, and the iClone Facial Pipeline Character Pack.

If you want 3DXchange5 Pipeline combined with iClone5 Pro, you'll have to get the Animation Pipeline bundle which is slightly more expensive.

That being said I think both the Pro and Pipeline versions of 3DXchange can export OBJ - I thought it was BVH & FBX that was the primary difference .... I could be wrong though.

Yes, from what I read, they can export OBJs without any problem. But this does not help me with my pipeline (since I can already export OBJs from DAZ Studio ... wouldn't have to spend any money on that functionality).

But if I buy the more expensive "Animation Pipeline Bundle", I would still have to purchase the Face Pipeline Pack in order to get the functionality from the $349 bundle ...

the Pipeline versions of 3DXchange sells for $500 at iClone site - you need this for BVH and FBX ..
    you can get discounts .

What! I've just bought iClone 5 PRO, iClone 3DXchange5 PRO & iClone Facial Pipeline Character Pack (i.e. everything in 'iClone5 Facial Pipeline Power Bundle') thinking I'd be able to animate Genesis but now I need 'iClone 3DXchange5 Pipeline' as well?

I'm really fed up with all these confusing versions released by these 3D companies. It's like a devious advertising trap to hook people with. Can someone confirm whether the products I've bought can actually animate Genesis models properly so I can use them in DAZ or Carrara?

If not can I get a refund on these products?

Brilliant! I've just checked my Reallusion account and the upgrade to Pipeline is $299 - almost as much as I paid for the three products I bought. The list price for the Pipeline version is $499. What a joke! I'm really furious about this confusing system of product bundles that DAZ and Reallusion sell.

maybe read this thread I started first abd some of the answers I had been posting.
    yes it is confusing
and yes I who can now I can animate AND render everything quickly in iClone am quite happy with it.
and have done my best to explain to others what you need to do what.
you can try Daz's 30day return of course
    or whinge
or try doing quick easy animation renders in iClone.

I've asked for a refund for the first order and bought:

    iClone Animation Pipeline (3 in 1) &

    iClone Facial Pipeline Character Pack

    I hope this covers everything!

My beef is with DAZ and Reallusion who should make the information that accompanies their products much clearer by listing the limitations as well as the all the wonderful things each product can do. I'm also not impressed with the lack of official video examples that accompany the release of iClone Genesis support. It seems like the bare minimum and fails to show off the capabilities of this new development.

yes Daz has posted NOTHING on the forum, I agree with you on that
has been up to users like me and others to field questions.
I find myself rendering most stuff in iClone these days.
    used to mostly use Carrara.

Hmmm. You should have added Medieval Peasant Life to your order. Add the three to your cart, view it, and you'll see what I mean. :)

Yes, I forgot to mention I added 'Asian Persuasion' to get the huge discount ($377 total price) that adding Medieval Peasant Life offers but on second thoughts perhaps I should've added MPL now that I own iClone.

I've read through your posts and they've been very helpful and I agree with you that DAZ should be promoting this officially now that iClone has Genesis support. Maybe they're planning an official release campaign after March Madness but this will be a little bit late.
