Save an object?

How do I save an object in my own library?

The map My objects was created before in the Carrara presets map. The manual says: drag your object from the instance tab into the browser tab.
OK. Then a pop-up appears with the name of the object and one can add some comment.
If I next click on OK, there always appears a pop-up that tells me:

An I/O error occurs while executing...

It doesn't matter if I save a simple cube or something else. Even an object loaded from the Carrara library, I cannot save to the same or any other library.

What do I do wrong? Please help me out.

Frits

It could be the location where the folders were installed. You or Carrara may not have the proper permissions. What computer platform and OS are you using? What version of Carrara?

You could also try creating your own folder somewhere on your hard drive where you choose and adding it to the objects browser manually by clicking the little black icon on the far right top of the browser window, and then choosing Add Folder. You should then be able to drag and drop an object or group of objects to the added folder. If you still can't, then it may be caused by something else.

Good luck and don't hesitate to follow up if there are any more issues or problems!

Thank you. I knew it must be something stupid.
I use Windows 7 and Carrara Pro 8.5.
Now I created my library map in Documents (not in Program files) and add that to Carrara. No problem anymore.
It must have something to do with administrator rights.

    Problem solved.

Speaking of saving things as new objects...

I found Fairytale project website by following a link on either Sharecg or Renderosity,Sorry, it was two days ago and after many downloads/purchases and there were gad-zillions of files. But one zip file I clicked on to download was labelled Chohole. Is that you? I ended up with the castle by NeilP and some textures by others. What a great project if it's yours... will be going back for other things in the future.

So as the OP wanted, these objects need to be found, set up with at least a basic shader, then saved to browser. I am just getting my head around this as they will NEVER show up in Content or Smart Content as icons. Best to locate them asap and set them up in your browser before you forget you have them after hunting and researching in days past. Time to reorganise again!

    Cheers, xx :) Silene

If that's the add on textures for NeilP's fairy dress, then yes they are mine.

I worked with 3DSC for several projects as a texture artist, was a fun time working with a team instead of doing just my own freebie textures.

Francemi was the leading light for the 3DSC group, which closed some time back and then and sadly we lost France in April 2012. France used to host my Freebie website, in fact it was her encouraged me to start it. Now I have a new host.

Thanks for the confirmation! I do like the products and am sorry for your losing your friend and colleague
