genesis v genesis 2 , v5 v6, etc and what is up?

I've been away sonce DAZ stopped pretty much supporting v4 and m4, but not for that reason...just stuck with Poser and not DAZ Studio.

I'm really confused about Genesis and Genesis 2.
Does clothing and skin textures work for both?

And now there is V5, V6 and all associated figures ... are they all compatible or what is up with all this stuff?
Its like starting all over again.
