Well after seeing the thread in the commons and looking thru some of the threads here, i figured I would give this a go.

A little background, I'm Michael, been creative my whole life and got into graphics thru modding a video game years ago and have been hooked ever since. In addition to my art type images and renderings I am also a modeler, having used quite a few different modeling apps and settled on 3DSMax as my primary app. I do addons and mods for several game communities, both free and commercial. I also make some of my props for my renders when needed.

Currently, installed on my PC I have Max, Poser 6,7, 2010, DS 4.6, Cararra 6 pro, 7 pro, Blender, Milkshape, Sketchup pro and Gmax. My usually workflow is DS to Reality and then Luxrender and then PSD or Gimp if needed. Not a fan of postwork. I would like to move up to Octane or better yet, VRay, but not in the cards financially yet.

As for style and inspiration, I like fanart, comics, scifi, fantasy, realism and the female body. A large portion of my work violates the TOS here and some can be a bit on the dark/disturbing side, but you can see some of it at Deviantart, link in my sig.

I use quite a few figures, but rely heavily on genesis 1, with V4 and GF2 coming in second.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to be informative.

With that out of the way, here are some images. I have a friend that is writing some publications based on Red Sonja, so i have been sending her some images I did of my take on Esteban Maroto's classic Red Sonja.

The character is based on Genesis 1. The top is the death Maiden top here at Daz with my own custom chainmail and transmap. The bottom of the loincloth from Primordial barbarian set with my own chainmail and transmap again.

I like the first one the best- I think the lighting is really nice- the horse is a nice addition to the scene and easily noticed without drawing too much attention away from the woman. She really commands attention with the pose- it's perfect!

Have fun with your thread, looking forward to seeing more. I know it takes awhile to get these set up and rendered- lots of hard work with these details.

Thanks for the welcome all, much appreciated.
Yep, using an unbiased rendering can be a little tedious if I want to create a storyline, but I so prefer the results over a biased renderer and i figure the time i save in not setting up the lights in a biased renderer more than make up for it.

Here is another RS image using a slightly different light set up (HDR +Reality sunlight)

While continuing her journey thru Cimmeria towards Zamora, Sonja sees an old fortification and decides to stop for a rest, possibly for the night. As she approaches the building she comes across a lone Cimmerian warrior who seems to be bent on defending the mountain top and the old structure. Large and fair haired, unusual for a Cimmerian warrior, she wonders what his intentions are as they size each other up.

As the marked warrior looks down at the opponent in front of him, he wonders if this is the "red headed she devil" the clan across the mountain had mentioned upon his last visit. Supposedly this "female" defeated the clans best warriors and left none standing. This mountain pass belonged to his clan and he was sworn to protect it, but at what cost he wondered as he decided his next move.

Some technical info, the scene was put together by me. The ground is a high res plain with a free seamless ground texture applied and a deformer to create the hill. The 2 trees were modeled by me and could really stand to be optimized more as I could only add 2 for this scene. I added a free HDR image for the background to the Reality light sphere. The vegetation is from RDNA and lisa's botanical s
