I am new here and have been searching all week trying to find my answer with no luck as of yet.. I am creating some of my own content and I don't know where to install the content i have created in daz3d 4.6. If I import my content it doesn't have any of the textures on it.
I have attempted putting my folder structure content in the following directory.
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library
Still didn't work.
I Also attempted a straight forward import.. No luck.. I realize DAZ makes its money by selling content. But there has to be an easy way to use my own content along with the other DAZ content.

Honestly it depends on what you created/how you created it.
I can offer you some advice, but first I need to know what file format this content you've created is in. As well as what exactly you are trying to do with it.
I am creating props and back drops.. not up to speed yet on creating critters and bodies. I am using blender and export my stuff as OBJ files.
My file structure is as follows when i create.
folder name >
.... xxx.jpg
.... xxx.obj
....xxx.mtl
Ok, sounds like you are on the right track. Unfortunately though DAZ Studio doesn't read the .mtl file when you import the .obj file so you have to load the image maps manually in Studio when setting up your content.
Your basic workflow is going to look like this.
1. Import .obj into Studio (it doesn't matter where the .obj resides as long as you know where you saved it)
2. Set up your materials using the Surfaces Pane. This involves loading appropriate image maps for each surface and each property. Setting values for the different properties etc.
3. Save as a Figure/Prop Asset. Once your prop is set up with the materials you want. Go to File --> Save As --> Support Asset -->Figure/Prop Asset.
A few things to keep in mind.
1. When you save the Figure/Prop Asset make sure that the object you want to save is selected in the scene.
2. Your images should reside in a folder structure that resembles the following [Base Content Folder]/Runtime/Textures/[Your Texture Folder and or Subfolders]/Texture.jpg This keeps the path to the image relative rather than using the absolute path when the content is saved.
3. When you save the Figure/Prop Asset take note of where you save the .duf file. It should be inside of your Base Content Folder (such as My DAZ 3D Library) It is up to you where inside that folder and subfolders to save it. I recommend choosing a location that makes sense to you.
Jared,
Many thanks for your concise yet comprehensive explanation. I'm currently stalking some wavefront objects so your post will be very useful.
Cheers,
Alex.
No problem.
I should add that this workflow is for static props that aren't rigged or parented.
If you want your prop to load parented then you need to paraent it before you save it as a figure/prop asset.
Also if you are working with clothing you will want to rig everything before you apply textures (you don't have to but I find it easier). Rigging is pretty involved, but if you are interested in the logistics of rigging a piece of clothing I can explain at a high level the steps you would take.
thanks that helped alot..
