Hello forum, I am new to DAZ and I have tried and tried i cant figure it out by videos or w/e so maybe one of you can help me better. First problem is i am trying to make a pregnant morph for a model and i am having issues so i went and downloaded a morph for it but i cant figure out how to get it into DAZ studio. Second problem is that i cannot figure out how to alter hair properly for the life of me i can get the shape of the hair i want and everything but the hair seems like it is too thin is that makes sense is there anyway to increase the thickness of the hair and also maybe make long hair look a bit more natural? Sorry like i said i am new to DAZ if anyone could help me that would be awesome! :D

As for the pregnancy morph, I would check out D-Formers in Studio (aka magnets in Poser). Which hairstyle are you wanting to modify?

Well, i think the poser magnets is what i downloaded for it but i cant figure out how to get them into DAZ to use them they are pz2 files or something like that i dunno i might just be an idiot and looking right over it lol. and as for what hairstyles i only have the 2 that you get when downloading DAZ. Don't really wanna buy anything for it till i get more comfortable with editing things and such :P

The 'thinness' of hair comes from the fact that most hairstyles just double-sided polys with a transparency map to give the illusion of hair. That means each strand literally has no depth at all, and the illusion of depth comes from the fact that these flat areas are layered over one another. You could feasibly add depth using a modeler, but it would look artificial and poor and would certainly screw up any transmaps used.

Is there a particular hair you're having trouble with, or is it all hair in general?

basically all the hair in general ; ; sorry I am a noob

For the hair, make sure you're rendering with 3Delight, that's the high quality setting in the render setting tab.. if you're just looking at the viewport or rendering with poor quality it will look terrible.

Don't apologize for being new, it's great to have another newbie :)

First of all, recognize what the Scene tab does. Click on your hair product there.
Next go to Parameters and find Actor. Look at your options under there- if there are some MORPHS then open that and you'll see options to move certain parts of the hair. Sometimes you can widen sections.

Also in Parameters, you may find a Mesh Smoothing option. Set smoothing to 3 to 8 to get better ends on hair. Just test it and see how it works. If there is no smoothing option, you can go up to the little menu (with the black triangle pointing down) that is above the word "Scene" and click on it to open it. Select Edit>Geometry>and then Apply Smoothing Modifier. Think of smoothing as rounding out some of the kinkiness of the strands.

Hope this gets you started. BTW, post over in the New Users forum, and take some time and read over there. It's worth the time :) But never be afraid to ask for help.

To use a pz2 file in DAZ, go into your Content folder, then Runtime, then libraries, then Pose, and create a folder/directory in Pose, and put your pz2 file (and any accompanying files) in there. From there, you can refresh your Content folder, or exit and relaunch DAZ Studio, and they should appear. Pz2 files are pose files (native Poser content), and will work in both Poser and DAZ Studio. I am not sure where it will be exactly, but if you search the words before .pz2 in Studio, it will show you the poses.

As for being new, welcome! :D I remember being new. I started with Poser 3 given away free on 3D World (if ever there was a "first one is free" moment in my life, that was it). Then I got Poser 4 for Christmas that same year (2001, as I also got Michael 2.0 and then Stephanie as a bonus mystery model), and was hooked from then on.

Lately I have been revisiting my early Poser efforts. I have 2 pieces of advice: Save every character/prop/magnet/render/etc. that you make, and save all of the Poser/DAZ Studio content you can find. You never know when a site is going to go down, a backup fail, etc. There are Poser files I wish I had made more copies of, as the only one (maybe in the world, according to my forum efforts) could end up on a CD with its index scratched (where you can see that the file is on the disc, but can't actually read its location/data). Recently a maker of a very popular set of props in my scene (not DAZ-friendly) gave permission for the store I sell through to host them, as he had lost the originals, and I had saved all of them, even the promo images. I cannot stress enough how important it is to make copies of content that you like and use.

Thanks all for the help and thanks for not blowing up about me asking questions, used to posting on forums and people be like "damn go look or watch a video" so its refreshing to see that not everyone on the internet is a jackass lol. Thanks for the advice about the content library but i am not sure my files go in the same order that yours do....i dont have any runtime folder in my content folder...:/
Hrm so i did that i got it figured out but none of them are a morph like the download said it is just poses.....am i missing something?

and also i hate to ask this but is there any sites out there where i can get new free female models? i feel like i will get bored working with the same one again and again lol

IMO DAZ's figures are the best there are. I feel you would be better served saving your pennies until you can afford the following morph bundles. The first is for Genesis and is not gender specific. The next two are for Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male respectively, they are optimized for their respective base and will look a little more realistic than Genesis's gender neutral morphs.

What download are you referring to?

When you download and install DAZ Studio, you should also download and install Genesis Starter Essentials, and Genesis 2 Starter Essentials (Male and Female), there are another couple of things as well, but have you at least downloaded and installed these?

Along with these two bundles, which are free, are several morphs for the characters. You find morphs by selecting Genesis (or Genesis 2) in the Scene pane, then looking in the Parameters pane. If you need morphs to change an expression, then you need to select the Head in the Scene pane, and look in the Parameters pane for expression morphs.

It needs to be installed to the same content folder as Genesis Starter Essentials.
