Files Types

Trying to get my mind around the various file types.
I am running DS4.5+ 64 on my laptop and nothing else.
Files ending in...
PS > Poser only files? No need to install? Since there should be an equivalent DS file?
PoserCF > Also Poser only? From when there were three install packages?
PoserCore > Also Poser only? Maybe containing Poser specific geometry?
Legacy > DS3 only? So no need for me to install them?
DS > DS equivalent for the DS files? Which I do need to install.
StudioCF > DS equivalent for the PoserCF files? Which I do need to install.
Anything I am missing? Are my assumptions correct?
My runtime is already so cluttered that I am trying to avoid as many duplicate entries as I can.

There are still several products that are only PS with an associated StudioCF. They do not have an equivalent DS (yet??)
You'll still need the PS package for those.
(Legacy also includes DS4. There were big changes between DS4 and DS4.5!)
The current Studio should be able to read these if there's no newer version.
Ugh. Yeah, it's these caveats that are giving me a headache.
I am just trying to avoid having two or three duplicate entries in my system library.
Unfortunately I have been buying content for far too long for the smart library to be of any use. Most of those items don't have the smart content.
You shouldn't have duplicate entries. The StudioCF are usually only DS optimized mat files for whatever it is in the associated PS file. Same texture files, just different presets.
You are basically right but I'd add a few extra bits.
If you have a DSON core file that is all you need.
Not all content comes in Daz Studio format. If you only have a Poser file then install this, you can use it in Daz Studio.
If you have a StudioCF file you will need the Poser file that goes with it. StudioCF files usually do not contain the actual models, just material presets that make Poser models work better in Daz Studio.
Some older content only has one installer and doesn't say what it is. This is usually a Poser file or a Legacy file.
Template files do not install into the Daz Studio library. You don't need them but you can use them to help you make your own textures.
Are you using DIM or downloading manually?
I do all installation manually when I can.
I had to install DIM to get the latest Content Manager but I only used it to download the latest Daz Studio and Content Manager installers.
