What's a good way to animate firelight?

in Technical Help (nuts n bolts)

don't need the fire animated ... just the light ..

I'm thinking of a cylinder that rotates around the fire that has .. I don't know... a flame looking cutout as a transparency map?

    I had a fake fireplace prop in an apartment way back.  If it's just the light you need, that  should work fine.

    a ghost light rotating with a flamey emission texture should work
