SF/Sci Fi Clothing - Formal and Casual
I'm playing in a Traveller (Mongoose/Second Edition) and a lot of interactions are based on your Social Status. The higher the Social Status the better you fit in with higher class people/sopcial settings/enviropnments.
I was using DAZ Studio (new tot he software so just learning) to create an image of my charater, and browsing the store I ntoiced a distinct lack of Casual or Formal clothing for malke figures in SF/Science Fiction area.
A lot fo the clothing (say about 90%) seems targeted towards female figures,. and the rest that is for male figures tends be either armour or Star Trek-style unifroms.
When I say Formal or Casual Clothing, I'm referring to clothing such as you see on TV shows such as Babylon 5, The Expanse, or in video games like Detroit Become Human, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, and so forth. Clothing that almost looks like what we wear today but tweaked to make it look a little more like something that would be worn in the future.
Is there anyone who is willing to create products for Male Figures along these lines?
Anestis.

If you browse the forums you will find lots of threads on how male clothing and male items in particular don't sale well, so that would explain the lack of options, but it seems to be getting better.
As for items based on TV, movies, games and other copyrighted media IP, you won;t find much here because of the legal issues. There will be items inspired by, but hardly any direct copies.
As for sci fi male clothing, your best bet is to kitbash outfits together (using items from various sets and editing the textures to suit your needs). the best vendor for some sci fi clothing would be aeon soul https://www.daz3d.com/aeon-soul
Yes, I know the issue regarding licensing. I was giving examples as inspiration rather than "I want to see exact replicas".
I checked out https://www.daz3d.com/aeon-soul - not really what I'm looking for. Again, seems to be mostly for females. Some male items, but not really what I'd call casual or formal wear, more like uniforms or armour.
Same request + Holden's outfit
Just to expand on this point, have you actually seen some fo the stuff? Some of the uniforms in aprticular are definitely direct copies of Star Trek TOS uniforms. I've also seen direct copeis Catwoman's suit, Suiperman and Batman outfits without the logos, Lara croft outfits, and more. So yeah, saying that copyrighted media isn'ty allowed is kinda m,oot consider I see a lot of it on the site already.
As I said, I'm not looking for exact copies, just clothing inspired by some of the styles seen in the shows/games that I mentioned.
Fore xample, as shown in the picture above, Holden's outfit of "overalls with the upper part not worn and dropped at the waist or tied around the waist, t-shirt/tank top, and boots" type outfit is very commonly seen on many SF TV shows and movies.
Anestis.
A lot of this is already available, especially if you are willing/able to refit between generations - I think your main focus would be retexturing, so that things had a cohesive 'feel' for your futuristic setting. Now, things tied around the waist et al, I can't think of any offhand, but I rarely do modern-style renders; maybe someone else can point some out, if they exist? Otherwise, if you are doing stills, you could probably get clever with postwork, mesh grabber, and bits to cobble together the half-worn look you are aiming for...
All the above went over my head. Remember, I'm pretty much a beginner. Learning the ropes at this stage so looking for ready made things.
In any case, there is astill a lack of SF style male clothing in the store. As Is aid above, most of it is armour or uniforms and nto really casdual clothing, which is the issue you don't address.
Oops
@NoahLGP: Please go back and please re-read what I wrote. You've conmpletely missed the point which is I am NOT wanting TOS/TNG/Uniform style clothes or armour, but casual clothing (say off-duty type clothing). Everyday wear, or formal business wear but Science Fiction stylised.
e.g. In the Traveller campaign I am in, my character, when doing business, wears business style clothing.
nvm
Nojne of those. I know whatr my character should look like, but the clothing I am looking for isn't there in the store.
I know you're trying to be helpful but, right now, I'm not in a good headspace (depression, anxiety, chronic headaches), so it's just irritating me instead.
Sorry, didn't catch the just starting part - my bad, reading quickly over lunch at work! This is a bit long-winded - don't read it if you're looking for a quick fix!
There is a lack of men's clothes, generally, but the way it 'looks' in the store is alterable; if you can find clothing that has the right shape, you can often change the fabric and details to get closer to your ideal. It would help all of us who are (honestly!) trying to be helpful if you could give a little more information.
1) Do you have a specific figure or 'generation' of figure you are creating this outfit for?
2) You know what your character is supposed to look like, but we have no real idea - if you could provide a picture, or a specific description - eg. if it's a coat, does it have lapels, a zipper, buttons? what length? - then we can make better suggestions.
3) If there is a look or a style that you think represents your character's outfit, even if the details are not exactly correct, that, too, would be helpful.
4) What is your goal? Are you creating character pictures (a still 2D image), animations, or are you planning on printing the character as a figure? There are methods that will work for a static image that will not work, or work as well, if you are moving the figure around.
Now, information I neglected to provide in my original answer (and I'm going to assume it was all incoherent, skip whatever!); if you are using Genesis 8 figures, but find a wonderful piece of clothing that is for an earlier figure (Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3) the clothing may not fit exactly, or not without more effort and information than you might have right now. There are ways to solve problems fitting between various figures; it is not insurmountable, but it might not be something you want to do at this point. Retexturing is where you literally change the surface of something from the original marketed image to something else. You can change a texture image in something like Photoshop or GIMP, or you can apply a shader which is a pre-set-up all-over texture (you could take a coat and texture it to look like bark, for instance. Not saying you'd want to to, but there's lots of options!) Post work is where you take your render and adjust things in a graphic program (like Photoshop). Mesh Grabber is a product here at Daz which I often use to adjust bits of clothing to either fit better or alter the shape of parts of clothing. There's also the option of using more than one piece of clothing to get closer to what you want - the fantasy equivalent would be to take Bob the Orc's shoulder pauldrons and wear them with Harry the Wizards robes and then sling a gunbelt over the whole kit and caboodle (that`s not fantasy? Well, that's how my campaigns seem to work out!)
As far as hiring someone to make your specific outfit - you know that's really expensive, right? This probably isn't the place to find someone, exactly, either - these forums are largely people who use Daz talking and offering help, support, and info to other people who are using Daz.

What?
@Ascania None of those have an SF/Futirustic type twist.
I dispute that! ALL of them are suitably SF/Futuristic.
Not for me (and not for most SF fans). As I mentioned, look at images for Babylon 5, the above pictures posted from the game Detroit: Become Human, and so on (the stuff I mentioned in my original post).
https://themovieelite.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Wallpaper-babylon-5-32359648-1280-720-1200x520.jpg - the clothes the two men on the left are wearing. A little bist of twist on the modern.

I dunno, just filtered by G8M I can see lots of clothes that can be adapted
https://www.daz3d.com/clothing-and-accessories#index=64&filter_compat_figures=Genesis%208%20Male&filtered=1
fabric choices can change an outfit considerably and you need not wear all the bits from any one set
https://www.daz3d.com/shaders
as pointed out only you know your vision of what style clothing you want
my space pirates for example dress like outlandish pirates from the past with loads of bling, it's very broad what could be worn in any senario as fashion has never been practical.
I highly doubt the skintight bodysuits popularised in many films would trend as nobody looks good in that!
basic tops, jackets, tshirts, pants etc with futuristic fabrics can never go wrong, learning to edit textures, looking at how stuff is UV mapped etc is probably your best way to get unique stuff suited to your tastes
clothes with addons that can be mixed and matched like this are great too
https://www.daz3d.com/everyday-2-for-genesis-8-males
Not there yet. Beginner. Very much beginner.
Some people do, but few and far between.
Yeah, that's a bniut more advanced than the experience I have. Just started with DAZ Studio. Hence loking for ready-m ade stuff.

This is what is frustrating me a little bit. Even with me saying I'm new to DAZ Studio and 3D Rendering in general, people are expecting me to do advanced things.
I mean, this is my first attempt - I used a cowboy outfit I found on the DAZ store, and just used the pants, shirt, vest, and shoes.
Basic jackets with cardigan lapels, shirt with mandarin collar. Nothing in that is "futuristic" (in the that opposes contemporary), it's just a fashion that you could find nowadays just as well.
Again, fashion. All elements of it can already be found out on the streets
Low-hanging trousers and a common long-sleeved shirt.
A fashion that is very popular with uniform styles. look at the sF uniforms in the store.
Same.
Basic retexturing of the above. Doesn't even require much effort due to the very simple structure that you can achieve by just drawing a rectangle on the UV map if the item doesn't already have a separate material zone for it.
Armoured uniform in black.
Any of the clothing items that pop up when you search for "cyberpunk" in the store.
Trousers and t-shirt. I linked a product already.
T-shirt with a blue spot.
put the jacket from here on a male: https://www.daz3d.com/x-fashion-girl-outfit-for-genesis-8-female-s
Uniforms and basic jackets with a random different texture put on one or two material zones.
Repetition of previous links.
So what we have here is stuff that's either contemporary, uniforms or a very specific styling that would require us to read your mind. If you want a specific style, ASK for that specific style. The future is a LOOOOOOOONG time and open to a lot of interpretations. If you ask a generic question you get the responders personal interpretations.
I did ask for a specific style and gave examples. People like you keep insisting on showing me modern stuff, not what I'm looking for. In one fo the exmaples you gave you linked to surfwear. Umm no, that's not SF related at all.
Please stop assuming I can do advanced things in DAZ Studiop because I can't. I'm not advanced. I'm a beginner., So please, uinl;ess you are going to provide actual construyctive advice and actual examples of SF clothing with a futuristic/SF twist, then plerase leave it alone.
See @Misselthwaite's comment. At least they are trying to help.
well I can fully understand Ascania and anyone else not wanting to help given your attitude
my suggestion
learn to use DAZ studio
Just commenting ona few of these as I'm tired of arguing because poeple seem to not be udnertsanding or listening.
Not a uniform. Formal wear.
Again, formal wear, not a uniform.
I;'m a beginner. Haven';t learnt textyring yet. Lookign for ready made items.
Not really, no.
Already looked at the cvyberpunk clothing. Again, most of it is for females (like 70-80%, and the male stuff is not what I am lookign for, wheras the stuff I linked is more along the lines of what I am looking for.
What, you think I ahven't already looked through the store? I have and nothign suits the stryles I am looking for.
Not really.
Not really.
Not a jacket. Sheesh, take a closer look.
Advanced techniquers I don';t know yet. I. AM. A. BEGINNER!
Again, not really
I did state specific styles. You're not helping by linmkiung to products that don't have the style I want, and I've mentioned many times the store doesn't have.
At least @Misselthwaite is being constructive and helpful.
And to reply to that last comment, yes, I am learning to use DAZ Studio. But, again, I'm a freakin' beginner. I only started last week.
You're expecting me to be an expert in one week. Yeah, great attitude from you.
Like I said, I have several health issues, mental and physical. There's only so much I can do at times, and so much I can tolerate at times.
If you can't be tolerant and patient to those who have such issues, then feel free to not comment on their posts.
yep, putting you on ignore mate
Ah, when someone can't be cosntruictive, doesn't listen to what the other person is saying, has things explained to them multiple times, they tend towards the rude. Lovely.
