Conservatory Grounds?

Does anyone know if the ground that they used in the Conservatory promo pic with the nice paths and grass is part of any set sold here? Or is it something they made just for the promo pic?

I'm not sure what ground they used for the promos. We don't do the promos for DAZ O's

The grounds aren't part of the product.

I didn't expect them to be part of the product. Daz often use parts of other sets in their promo pics . If they did then this one is an ideal setting to put the conservatory in so I was wondering what it is.

I don't know ... but it looks to me that something like this one was used:

(I know, wrong path textures ... but the build your own principle ...)

If you've got the right shaders, you can also make a giant plane and create a second mat zone for the path using the geometry editor.

The round parts for the tables would be a pain to get perfect, but if you could deal with everything just squared off you could use the drag or marquee selection method.

    /edit
Flattened cylinders would work for the round bits.

Is the Geometry editor something in Daz Studio? (I really must learn how to use this software properly).

I was planning to try modelling something in Carrara and exporting to Daz Studio but I haven't started on it yet. Probably using Booleans to join flattened cylinders to stretched and flattened cubes to make the paved sections, then cutting that shape out of a flattened cube to make the grass sections. If I can do something like that in Daz Studio then I'll try that first.

Create / New Primitive - for the cylinders, cubes, planes (or the icon with a filled circle with a square and a triangle peeking out behind and a plus + sign in the top left corner)
Geometry editor: for the icon I am adding a screenshot, toooo lazy to describe it, else it is Tools / Geometry editor
Rightclick to choose your selection type (I just choose to use the polygon selection and painted a square)
Rightclick on your selection Geometry assignment / Create surface

Thank you all for your help. I've been having a go at this.

I tried using cylinders for the round sections and this worked fine until I tried using the AoA grass shader. This creates wonderful grass using displacement mapping, but this means the grass comes up through the cylinder.

For this attempt I went back to just using the geometry editor to create surfaces and went for a square seating area. It needs a lot of work still, but it shows that the principle is sound.

I like what you have going there Peter. Are you trying to convince me to buy yet another of AoA's products? (Just kidding on that last. If I had unlimited funds, everything that I liked would be mine.)

Turned out great! I actually like the square area the table is on more than the round. Contrasts nicely with the roundness of the table and chairs.

Isn't it fun what you can do in DS?

Nicely done Peter. I'm glad you posted, as I didn't realize it didn't come with the set. Good to know it can be accomplished in any case.

If you are using the AoA grass shader, you can create any path style you want easily.

Create a ground plane and use your path texture on it. Create a geometry shell of the ground plane and put the grass shader on it. In a paint program, paint whatever path style you want (white for grass, black for path) and drop it in the displacement channel of the geometry shell.

The path will show through the black painted areas.

Thank you for explaining this. I had a look through the menus and found out how to create a geometry shell, I think I'll have a go at this.

And thank you all for the nice compliments. Yes, it is fun finding out what you can do in Daz Studio.

I had a go at the geometry shell and displacement mask method. It's a bit more work but it gives you total control of the grass shape.

I rendered the top view camera to get a template for drawing the mask, that way I can just draw areas around the conservatory and the table and add the path.

Here is render of the scene with some people added to make it more interesting. It's been fun and I've learnt a lot about Daz Studio doing this.
