Snap prop to hand

I want my model to hold a wine glass so I got myself some glasses props.
Is there an easy way to align the glass with one of the hands? Or some other object like table?
When I double click my prop it just pops into the scene and I have to move it.

I notice from other props that when I add them to the scene they automatically are located on one of the hands so I want to achieve the same thing with my glass.

Some props have a preset to put it in the hand for you, and some also have a pose preset to have the hand grasp the prop.

Other times it is a delicate process of moving the 'Transit' and 'Rotation' sliders to get it close. then typing in numbers (in the slider things) for finer placement.

Then, parent the cup to the hand (Check box, "In Place").

Then you can move the hand around for posing the figure, and the cup stays in the hand. (Some 'Pose' controls prevent you from moving finger joints directly, that just makes it more difficult at times)

If you start out with your figure in a 'T'-pose, place the cup and hand. It may be possible to save the preset of the hand and cup, somehow (I don't know how).

If you don't have In Place checked when changing the parent the prop will snap to the origin of the node it is parented to.

Mini Smart Prop Tutorial: Genesis or G2 Figures By Jaderail

Load your figure in the Viewport in the standard T pose.
Load your standard prop to the viewport. Now carefully position your prop to the hand you wish as best you can, use zoom and Perspective View or other Views to help. The goal it to get as good as possible to the palm in the T pose as you can. That means rotating the item and all as needed so once posed the item is angled right and such.
Once your prop is as good as you can get it go to your Scene Tab, expand the figure to that Hand. Now Drag in the Scene Tab the Prop to that hand, it is now parented. It will pose with the figure now.
Put any standard pose you might like as a starting pose on your figure. Now your prop looks wrong more often than not. Select it in the scene tab, use the Parameters dial and very close Zoom work to pose it well.
Now pose the Hand to fit your prop and your pose. Once done your ready to create the Smart Prop and the re-usable hand pose.
In your Scene Tab select the Prop, it should still be Parented but select it only. Do File>Save As>Support Asset>Figure/Prop Asset, name and save your Smart prop. I Often just save to the Items folder and add Item-SP to it.
Now select your Figure, do File>Save As>Pose Preset, when the menu opens deselect all, expand the list to the proper hand expand all options select the hand and the fingers should auto set. In the Hand turn Translations X Y Z off, now save your Hand pose.

You now have a Smart Prop that will load to your figure each time, and the hand pose for the Prop. Enjoy.

Thank you FB. I convert most I use often with just this method. There is a much different approach for the Generation 4 figures, those you must edit with a text editor the PP2 file and change many of the data and settings lines. Genesis figures in DS4.5+ is easy in comparison.

Oh yeah we also now have this thing, I'm still learning it...

    Hi,

Can someone clarify for me if those instructions would work for my sitation? I need the prop (purse) on the character's lap while she sits and to grab and carry it when she stands up and walks. I attached the purse to the hand but the initial pose is the character leans on her hand seated and it holds the purse at her temple while it is supposed to be on her lap. When I change the purse positioning to her lap it starts flying around as she moves her hand. I had to adjust every single frame which is tedious a job. I am sure there's a smarter way of doing it. Any ideas?

What I would do is to insert two purse props, and attach one to her hand, and one to her lap. Then, whenever the purse is suppose to be on her lap, adjust the scale of the unwanted one to 0%. When she picks up the purse, shrink the lap purse down to 0% and increase the hand purse to 100%. Make the scale changes instant, over one frame, and make sure they are linear on the timeline.
