I was wondering if someone can link me to a tutorial on editing and making your own texture for Genesis and such?

I don't think such a tutorial exists. It's not something which is easily taught, since there's a lot that goes into creating a believable texture. Adding subtle touches using different photoshop brushes, for example, and matching it cross the texture seams properly. It really is an art unto itself.
You can find texture resources which are basically unblemished skins you can alter to your hearts content. It may give you some better insight into the work involved in creating your own unique textures.
I'm not sure but think one of the Texture Resource Kits sold here at DAZ 3D comes with a brief overview of what is need to edit the base files to a New set that could be sold, that would cover lots of the needed info but not all that would be need. Such has matching UV templates and crossing seams would still need learned from other sources. If the Set I'm thinking of is even here at DAZ 3D. I never perused creating my own figure textures once I got a good idea of what all was needed.
Surely there is a tutorial on switching UV-maps: http://patience55anotherone.deviantart.com/art/Skinning-Dino-461534703.
And I think there are more, you'd have to search here: http://arlesienne.deviantart.com/favourites/53212890/Resources.
You could start with a resource kit that allows freebie-making so that people can test your skins and share tips. I did lots of research on that matter some time ago and found good things like Biscuit's free skin base on Rendo. Making textures from kits is very difficult, starting from total scratch - even worse (you'd have to obtain full nude photographs for example).
