Learning Blender! Im so excited!! Sharing my WIPs
I am so excited to start learning some modeling! I decided to go with several suggestions to learn Blender since it is free. Figured that was a good option as any and I can also learn some of the others like ZBrush later if I feel the need. Although Blender looks to be pretty robust! (from my limited experience) I am taking baby steps and I can't say how much of this I will be doing or if I will ever get into the market side of things but I will share freebies as I learn if I feel they are at least decent enough to do that with. Also I have a lot going on in life right now so it probably will be slow going but I feel it also as an escape to help get my mind off things.
Enough of my ramblings! I found a great tutorial series by Blender Guru that I am following, It is an earlier version of Blender than the 2.83 but so far I can mostly follow along. I have just finished Level 1 and here are the results!

Ha!
It's a good tutorial for beginners; has he updated it for 2.8?
Edit
No matter just realised you said.
I used CG Cookie about 10 or more years; they have lots of amazing tutorials, but most are paid for.
That is an amazing tutorial and I really need to take the time to go through it one day.
Lol I was expecting to just see a joke render of a regular old torus for some reason. That came out good.
I'd say that's pretty darned good, I would eat it :)
The tutorial you found is one of the best, in my opinion, and is affectionately referred to as "The Donut Tutorial" for obvious reasons. The author, Andrew Price aka Blender Guru also runs Poliigon, a site that sells very good materials and other things.
Thanks everyone!
Thanks for the tip @nicstt at some point I will check them out.
@TheMysteryIsThePoint yes it is a very good tutorial although I have gotten confused a few times cause of the version difference.... But for the most part I have been able to figure it out. I need to check out Poliigon the ads before the tutorials look like some interesting stuff there.
@Greybro, for me its been well worth the time. He is very detailed and if he forgets to state something he usually will go back and explain. He does have a morbid sense of humor, just fyi.
And last but not least the finished donut!! Now on to the coffee cup!
Yes, the good thing about Poliigon is that the materials are Blender native, and so they work perfecly whereas even Quixel materials don't always look good. And the Poliigon add on is very easy to install and use.
That's very good.
Looking good :)
WIP of the coffee cup. Im not completely happy with the handle he used the spin tool and I couldn't get it to work the same in 2.83 so I ended up extruding all the way around.
Being able to problem solve and come up with alternate solutions is a good way to go about things :)
+1
@Daventaki You're already internalizing things and your creativity is producing its own solutions. Together with the discipline you're showing, that means you're going to be very good, very soon. Congrats.
I love this tutorial, it was the 1st one I did and he is so good at explaining everything! You have done a great job with it.
