Inoperative products

Okay, I don't expect to see any official response to this until after the weekend, and it isn't an emergency, but I'd like someone to look into it.

I have been checking through my runtimes to find content that is defective and have flushed out several products which do not load. Nearly all of them from the same vendor. Not everything from the same vendor, but it's been a couple of years since anything from the vendor has been operative on my system.

The Vendor: Aave Nainen. The products:

A free T-shirt dress from 2013 for Genesis (Not a paid product so not as much of an issue)
Ordinarily one and two
Possibilities
A Gentleman's Wardrobe (all versions)
Everyday Wardrobe for G2F
That 70's Look
AN GirlfriendZ for Teen Josie

This comes to a total of some 10 different downloaded packages. What happens is that I try to load an item get the alert that the program can't find files and what loads is a lot of grey boxes.

Only, every one of those files is exactly where it's supposed to be. Exactly where the program says it's looking for them. Exactly where the packaging of the content indicates the files are supposed to be put. I do not use DIM. I hand install everything by putting it where the content packaging indicates that the files are supposed to be. The files are *there.* If the program cannot find them, then evidently the program has been led to look for something of a different name, or a different file format, or in a different place which was not indicated by the packaging.

The one exception of this is the AN GirlfriendZ item which does not show up in the content list at all. Even though I have installed it.

Now just in case there has been an update to any of these products I have re-downloaded them and will reinstall them yet again (I already did it once), but to be honest, i doubt that this is going to significantly change anything. Not with this many products behaving like they are defective.

And just in case Ms Nainen feels picked on (although I sincerely doubt that this is a fault of the vendor) I would also like to call attention to 4blueyes's Real Feel Pullover which has the same problem, despite multiple reinstalls.

I hate to say this but something is off in your installs I have the Everyday Wardrobe installed by DIM and it works perfectly as it should. I do not have the others to test but If one works all should.

I would guess that your data is not getting installed in the right place. What does it say it is looking for and where does it say that it thinks those files should be.

Make sure the Data and Runtime folders for the item are directly inside your content folder -- if you have an extra folder named Content inside your real content folder then they won't be found.

No extra layered folders. There's the main folder (which is not called content. It is 'DS4 Clothing+Accessories' which seems to be fine for everything else, including older content by the same vendors) then

(main folder)/data/AaveNainen/all the different folders for the vendor's products

    For runtime it's:
(main folder)/Runtime/Support/all the support files loose in the folder
    or
(main folder)/Runtime/Textures/AaveNainen/all the loose texture files and the three subfolders

Now I just tried loading the shirt from the Everyday wardrobe and got the alert again. I'm attaching it.

The file is *exactly* where the program is looking for it. It isn't under another name, it isn't in another file format, there isn't an additional folder sitting anywhere in the path. The file is there. The file is *exactly* where it is supposed to be. It is *exactly* the file name and format the program is looking for. The program cannot recognize it.

And of course there is no 'Locate' button as there is when you try to load or apply something and the program decides to make you work for it.

This is Studio 4.6.1.39 on a Mac running Snow Leopard. Not that that is likely to be a part of the problem.

It loads fine for me with no data error so there has to be an issue with where the data is located on your system. Do you have multiple data file locations rather than just the one set of data? Having it all spread around could be the issue.

    Did you HAND create the
(main folder)/data/AaveNainen/ folder here? If so there is the Error This Folder is NOT spelled the SAME as the folder listed in the Error
    (main folder)/data/Aave Nainen/ is not a match.
Data folders should just be copied into the Data folder and not hand created. So you may end up with many Aave Nainen folders in Data but that is how it is supposed to be for some items. IF and only IF the names match 100% can they be in sub folders from that part on down.

I'm using a slightly older version of DS4.6 than you and I'm finding this with some freebies from ShareCG, not sure if it's a case of too long a path in the files or if it's a case of some backward compatibility issue with content made in newer versions, got a bit of checking to do before I can nail it down.

The folders are drag copied into their final destination. The only one that I named is the main one. Admittedly, the AaveNainen folder was drag copied over with the first product from the vendor that I purchased. If the spelling has changed since then I did not notice. Will check that.

Yes, I split content into multiple runtimes, all on a peripheral hard drive.

Found the issue regarding the GirlfriendZ shirt. There is no shirt. No shirt at all. All the data files are for morphs of a shirt that apparently either is from a different vendor, attaches to the free T-shirt from the Xmas package (which does not load) or was left out of the packaging. I haven't checked the store page to find out which.

ETA: Yup. That was it. The spelling has changed. So that vendor needs two folders in the data folder. Easy to fix once you know what's wrong.

Now to find the glitch in the 4blueyes item.

    Thanks, everybody.
