VARIOUS Sculptris questions

Sorry for another post but..
I have a few questions about Sculptris and Poser.
Is morphing possible? Say I want to do a custom face in Sculptris. How would I do that? How would I import it back into Poser and have it work?
Second of all, is it possible to make full figures in Sculptris? The last thing I did turned out pretty successful but I was wondering if I could make other figures..
Like, idk..a dragon or something, and how would I add like..movements, bones, and joints to it?

Export the part you want to morph as OBJ using the As Morph Target option, modify it in Sculptris (don't add or remove any mesh, just push the mesh you have around - and don't use symmetry as, unless there's been a recent change, that works by deleting half the mesh and copying the other half over, which will break the morph) then use the Load Morph Target option in the Object menu or the button in the properties panel in Poser.

All rigging - bones and joints- is done in Poser. It's easiest if you break the model into groups first, but Poser does support single-skin rigging (in PP2012 and later) or you can use the grouping tool in Poser to do your grouping. The fact that the mesh came from Sculptris shouldn't make any difference so any Poser rigging tutorial will help.

You can use symmetry. Also make sure the detail slider is set to 0, as you want to only manipulate the current mesh and not add polygons.

From what I understand, you can only use symmetry mode to create morphs if the original mesh is 100% symmetrical and has zero symmetry creep. If there's any creep Sculptris does not use your original mesh in symmetry mode and creates a new mesh (I think copying left to right) which will destroy the geometry and create an incompatible mesh.

So for figures like Genesis which have minor symmetry creep you can't use the symmetry mode.

    YIKES!

Nope, no symmetry even if the mesh has perfect symmetry. Sculptris still copies right to left and wrecks the geometry.

Of course if what you want is a Raiders Of The Lost Ark, face melting effect then by all means go for it.

    Jesus christ...
Can you only do it for Genesis?
I'd like to make morphs for like M4...
    And I'm assuming...
if I use symmetry, save the file as an obj, load the obj, turn symetry off, resave, and import back into Poser it is not going to work..?

No, once vertex order is gone it is gone.

Lord have MERCY. that's not good at all. Seems that's an update that hopefully Pixologic will include in a future update (if they ever decide to do another)

From what I've heard Pixologic only purchased Sculptris to prevent it from going Open Source. The programmer stipulated in the sale it had to be made freely available but didn't stipulate it needed to maintain an update schedule so Pixologic makes it freely available but has no plans to update it. It serves their purposes as almost a demo version of zBrush and with the GoZ pipe built in a lot of zBrush users will use it to prototype their model before sending it to zBrush for detailing.

I was totally in love with Sculptris and used it in conjunction with MTMirror to make morphs for Genesis as well as using it to do my texture map painting. Even though I bought 3D Coat I still will use Sculptris now and then for prototyping or making a mesh symmetrical.

If you're building a mesh that needs symmetry Sculptris will create vertex perfect symmetry. Just make sure you've got no geometry or quads that cross the centre line and it'll make a perfectly symmetrical mesh which makes it perfect to use with MT mirror for doing facial morphs. Even Hexagon's symmetry function only does an approximate symmetry it seems.
