Who's UFO is this?

Does anyone recall the vendor that made this UFO?

I remember it distinctively being sold either here or Rendo, or maybe even CP, but I'm really not sure.

Any ideas?

Hah! An unidentified UFO! There appears to be a non-textured version on TS, filter by $10 searchterm UFO
Must be a bajizillion UFO's over there. Seems to be what noob 3d modelers are cutting teeth on...

I'm certain that was never in this marketplace, must have been Rendo.

    Hi MJ,

You might want to take a look at: http://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=motel+51&x=9&y=9. The texture looks pretty close to my eye & reminded me of that, but it's a bit different from what you're looking for unless it was heavily morphed/modified. The dome features on top & bottom of the one you're searching for sort of looks like the upper half of this product doubled up in a kitbitz....however....

The only other UFO sold here is http://www.daz3d.com/ws-disk-ship-1 which is nowhere near.

Unfortunately, UFO's are pretty simple items to model, but difficult to classify & ID their creators.

You can try turbosquid, renderosity, hive 3d, sky3d, and a few others. I doubt renderotica or AdamThwaites' site would have it, but you never know--just be aware they're absolutely NSFW ;-)

Looks like a pretty decent model. Hope you can find it.

    Cheers,
    Ryuu

Ok. I'll restrict my searches to exclude Daz3D.com. But i actually, thought it might have been offered here.

I actually own this product, so I was aware of this one. The other product was an actual product, not a kitbash.

Usually, Poser/DS users usually identify other products pretty well when they see it in any form. I know i do. And i thought some sci-fi person out there would recognize it right away. But if its not a Daz product which I thought it was, it might not be very well known around here... but i was hopeful.

I dont know why i didnt scoop it when i had the chance. But hopefully I can find its creator or where its currently being sold.

It may very well have been a product from one of the content sites. I did a search using the first image on TinEye and I got 4 hits. 1 was from the source yours came from, another one was a stock photo site with photos of a ton of Poser content images. The other two looked like Russian sites with a slightly different image (attached below).

The Russian ones are a UFO enthusiast site. Honestly, this image is so simple that it doesn't strike me as a commercial product.

At one time, it was. Without a doubt.

Now that you said that, I actually think "Flying Object" was the name of the product. I remember it took unusual keywords to find it in searches.

I think you're close. I'm pretty sure that some of the other ships on the Russian pages are the work of Luca Oleastri, aka Innovari, a commercial SF Illustrator/UFO magazine artist who works in Bryce and Poser. He used to sell some of his Bryce models over on Rendo under the name "Duo" and there were quite a few UFO sets based on Project Blue Book, old NAZI prototypes, etc., while the promos for his book UFOs has several with similar textures and several with the same shape. that's enough circumstantial evidence to make me suspect that the stock images were probably originally done for that book, one of the UFO magazines he contributed to or using one of his sets.

Here are links to a few of the discontinued old sets like http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/ufo---project-blue-book/42841 http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/8-ufo/70958 as well as an interview at http://www.renderosity.com/the-many-faces-of-luca-oleastri-cms-15011 and the preview for UFOs http://www.lulu.com/shop/luca-oleastri/ufos-aliens-ifos-and-other-mysteries/paperback/product-5510376.html

It certainly looks like a texture was applied to this UFO primitave at T/S: .com /3d-models/3d-vril-nazi-german-ufo-model/465407

Agreed. As a sci-fi uber-geek I can tell you that it is not familiar to me and I've been watching and buying content from DAZ since before the release of Victoria 3.

    Good luck on your search.

If its for non commercial use. Bazze has one called secret weapon. It's in 3ds format, but you could convert it to an obj using Poseray.

    FOUND IT!!!

I contacted the author of the image and he directed me to the product; It was on Rendo.
    http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=22387

I thought lwanmtr was the vendor, but although I was searching under his Rendo ID, it wouldnt come up.

Thanks to everyone that was trying to help me with this.

Probably got pulled from searches as it's listed as "unavailable".

  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,601

That item was placed on "clearance" some time ago and when the sales dropped below a certain rate (I think it's a gap of 2 months) then the item was "pulled". If one happens to have the direct URL saved, you can view it though it will be marked as "unavailable". But if you simply access the vendor's store, the "unavailable" product will not display.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

shoot, i'm always looking for UFOs and other retro sci-fi stuff. I can usually find a lot of them... but its amazing how tough it is to make such a basic shape look good
