Trekkiegrrrl UFO Question

Hello all,

Can someone thats a Poser user please show a top and bottom render of Trekkiegrrrl's UFO found on her site? I dont think i can link it., but a google search of "Trekkigrrrl UFO" should get you there.

Supposedly it uses a texture file that comes with Poser, so for a DS user like myself it comes up blank. But I would like to see how this ship looks with the texture that was it was made for.

Also if anyone has gotten this to work with a different texture or made another texture for it, I would like to see that as well.

Your assistance would be HIGHLY appreciated.

First one's Poser, second one's DS. I didn't modify either one, just load and go. The DS one does have an Adv Ambient set as a global fill using my high render settings. Poser I just left my custom 3 point lights and used IDL w/ my final draft render settings.

Is the DS one using the same texture map on the hull of the ship?

Yep. When it said it couldn't find it, I just grabbed it out of my Poser content folder.

The sucker has quite a few procedural nodes to it in Poser, which is why it looks extremely different.

Tried to post this earlier, and made a mistake. Here it is with a Supersuit plastic shader. Left the lights as is. I think they look good.

You can get quite close to the Poser settings just by increasing the tiling values. This is from Studio.
Or you can apply any repeating texture, UFO's are made out of concrete anyway :)

In DS4, tiling is now part of the standard surface shader.

Does anyone know where the Tiling Settings are in DS2?
I checked the Surface Tab, I dont see anything in there and thats where logic tells me it would be.

    Any help?

DS2 didn't have tiling with the default surface shader, you would need to check out 3rd party shaders compatible with DS2 to see if they have it.

Then how does products use tiling that renders perfectly fine in DS2?

For example, Stonemason's Sector 15 uses a tiled texture for the floor. This renders perfectly fine in DS2. How is that possible if DS2 doesnt support tiling?

You can get a tiling shader for DS 2 from Casual in the freebie thread. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/3205/
    Works great!

Thanks nitehawk, i was just reading that thread. But i am very confused how tiling works now and if i "really" need this shader.

3Delight has lots of capabilities which we don't have access to directly.

3Delight supports them if called upon but any direct access to them is via 3rd party scripts/plugins etc.

Some (like tiling) have been added to the main program in later versions.
(for DS2 or DS3 you will need something 3rd party)

Just out of curiosity, can I ask what DS2 gives you that DS4 does not?

    Thanks for that explanation!

    - Access to old scenes saved.
    - Use of certain plugins i use not compatible with DS4
    - UI Familiarity
