I was thinking about getting this photoshop to do some post edit work on my renders but I want to know what people thought about this.

...well for about 20$ more you can get access to the full Photoshop CS6 programme for a year. Granted it's through their Creative Cloud, so the value depends on the demand you have and how often you will be using it.

I am actually considering it just for learning purposes to give me more of an edge in finding employment.

Remember that CC expires if you don't pay, while PS Elements will continue to work (until an OS upgrade breaks it). You might also want to look at PainShop Pro, and I've heard good things about Photo Line, though I've not used either of those.

Elements is much more "user friendly" than Photoshop itself. If all you want it for is a bit of post work then Elements should be fine, and much easier to get to grips with. You may well find that you pay a lot more for Photoshop in the long run, and only ever use 10% of it's caperbilities. On the other hand, if you're likely to get into serious image manipulation, design work etc then it may well be worth the extra cash, and the extra time to learn how to use it. (Elements isn't just a cut down version of Photoshop - it's more like a completely different programe!)

I have been using Photoshop Elements 10 for some time now and find it is a very good program for making all those adjustment to my renders from adding logos etc, to carrying out all the usual adjustments to lighten, darken, contrast, sharpen, crop....the list seems endless. Admittedly this program does a lot more things which I do not use.

If this is the kind of basic things you need, then I totally recommend this program. Also, you can go to Adobe's website and download a free full working trial of P.E.12 before you decide to buy.

Hope this helps you to make a decision. :-)

Yeah, "Photoshop Elements" is perfectly adequate for typical postwork operations. And yeah, it's a lot less intimidating than full Photoshop.

Also consider if postworking people report that they only use 10 or 20% of PhotoshopElements, then that category of user would only be using 1 or 2% of full Photoshop features.

As a side note: I saw one post that made a reference to "Painshop Pro" Hmmm, was that a Freudian slip? 8-o

Also I saw one post that referred to program features as "caperbilities". Hmmm, somebody's having fun! :-)

...I have PSPX4 but find myself going back to GIMP a lot more recently as I feel it has better tools and filters and it can load Photoshop brushes without conversion. I need to upgrade PSP to X6 to get that.

I think Richard got the spelling right as sometimes it really is a "pain" to use for something that is supposed to be a fairly simple programme. For example you can be working on something with one tool and all the other tools get "locked out". I sometimes have to hunt around to figure out how to unlock the side toolbar when I want to switch as there isn't always the "Check Mark" to accept an operation on the top tool bar.

My primary use for PSP is working on textures and creating text overlays. Pretty much everything else I do In GIMP.

Really want FilterForge but need a micro windfall to afford it right now.
