Stonemason product dilemma...
I have a dilemma.
I find myself with a bit of spare cash - money that doesn't need to be spent on bills, food, necessities, or anything in Real Life. So I figured I'd do the most sensible, most adult and mature thing with it - spend it on a Stonemason product. (As you do...) :D :D
But my dilemma is this... I CAN'T DECIDE WHICH ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I thought I'd take the other most sensible and most mature and adult route - I'd ask the rest of the digital/3d peeps what they think. :D :D
So the question I'm throwing out - What would you buy?? What is your all time most favourite Stonemason product? Perhaps one you find yourself coming back to time after time? OR what product in the store do you drool over constantly and dream of the day you have that elusive spare cash to nab??
Er...I guess that's 4 questions, innit? :D
I love sci fi and have quite a few Stonemason sci fi ones - but I rarely do action scenes...I use them as backdrops or settings for portraits mainly. I ADORE The Enchanted Forest - use it a bit in fantasy, or bits'n'pieces of it. I keep looking at the ground level urban future one - thinking it would be cool to have a sci fi type street to race the Yamaki bike through....
I dunno. It's a REAL dilemma, folks!!! What do you think??
Comments
as backdrops any of the urban future ones are good but I must say for animation I only find the ground level one usefull, have used the lot but needed to be careful of camera shots as none fit together as far as I can tell.
I love the urban sprawls and use those a lot.
I'd say urban future 4 street level is one of my favorites. I vote that one, no wait i vote buy me something instead, can i change my vote?!?
the streets of Asia sets can sort of be fitted together.
have the other urban sets too and use them a lot
I own no ruins though
Urban Sprawl 2 looks very useful!! HUGE, but it has lots of pieces that can be used on their own, to populate other scenes. Hmmm...that's a good suggestion, thanks Wendy!
For ground level I'd say Urban Future 4 or Urban Sprawl 2, they're both large sets, but you really can't go wrong with any of his stuff.
...I'll vote for Urban Sprawl2 as well one of my oft used sets because of how much you can do with it.
...and it will fit in with Urban Sprawl3 when that comes out making the "Big City" even bigger.
I keep looking at that Urban Sprawl 2 :D :D
I'm curious tho why it's only on a 30% discount and not the 40/50% it's meant to be.
...interesting, I see the same thing, and I'm a PC (regular) member as well so I should be getting a 40% discount as well.
I'm wondering if it is one of those pricing glitches as when I first went to the store page everything on the first two pages (@16 items per page) was showing a 50% discount instead of 40% (save for the two new releases).
I don't know how much this fits in with the request for Urban or Sci-fi, but my favorite Stonemason sets in the order that I use them, and I use them a lot, are:
Village Courtyard

Let us know what you pick.
cheers!
heh i've got all of those except for Castle Ruins and Abandoned city 2. So I'll add those to the list and look everything over. Thanks!
I'm still wondering when Urban Sprawl 3 will be ready. Stonemason teased us by asking for suggestions a while back, so it will be interesting to see if he's used any of them in the final product. Besides, you can never have enough variation when it comes to city scenes.
Err, sidetracked. Yes, my vote goes to the Urban Sprawls.
If you don't have Urban Sprawl 2 The Big City, that's a very useful set which loads in its entirety, or broken into 4 quadrants, plus it then has dozens of individual props all the way from garbage cans to street signs to buildings to vehicles, plus a daytime and nighttime skydome.
...bad news, looks as if the "limited time" on the sale ended at 11:59 Daz time. I can find no mention of the offer anymore.
i must have JUST scraped in then. Checked out less than 2 minutes ago.
Although there's ALWAYS a glitch when the new releases turn over in the store....the prices look like they are still valid?
Ok I caved. :D
Urban Sprawl 2 is now mine!!! mwahahahahhahaha!!!
I also caved even more and grabbed:
City Ruins Bundle (building 01 and 02)
Modular Sci Fi Kit 01
Urban Future 4: Street Level
City Ruins: Vehicles
Rubble 3: Modern Ruins
Whew. 6 x Stonemason in one night. That's a personal best. I won't be having that sort of completely spare cash for a long while now, so I may as well blow it here in one go. *laughs* Thanks everyone!
...tried to edit my post above as I saw it in the 30 Best Sellers sale at 40% off but the stupid forum software logged me out when I clicked Update Post button.
Glad you were able to get it.
...mumblegrumblesassinfrassin software, 2+ years and this timeout rubbish still occurs at the most inopportune moments.
he's still showing as 50% off for PC+ members for me. Maybe a bit longer due to the pricing glitch that happens all the time. LOL.
...yeah there's an announcement in the scrolling banner about more stores being added to PC+. I'm just a plain brown wrapper run of the mill PC member so I don't get the extra 10%. Not that it matters as I can't even afford a 1.99$ item right now not much less be able to spend enough to use the PA coupon. Cirkey, I can't even find anything I need to use the regular coupon on.
Need to win or place in a few more challenges to build up a GC reserve, or have the lotto come through for me.
heh i've got all of those except for Castle Ruins and Abandoned city 2. So I'll add those to the list and look everything over. Thanks!
Village Courtyard is my all time favourite scenic prop, from any PA. (Incidentally, Stefan has just announced he is working on a sequel,) I also have a soft spot for the Streets of the Mediterranean.
Cheers,
Alex.

You'll have fun with those. Those ruin sets are all very well done.

Ummm... is 32 Stonemason sets a lot? Seems like a lot, but it can not be a lot. I do not have them all yet.
I just counted mine....50!!!

LOL holy cow, no wonder I had a major dilemma on which product to get. :D
I feel so much better now... whew.
...wish there was a Stonemason challenge this year, as now I finally have a system I can do something significant with.
(and it would be cool to win all 46 items even if I already have a few.)
Back to the original topic, though a bit late for the sale, I'd have to say that Urban Sprawl 2 is the single most useful and versatile Stonemason Product. It's detailed enough for closeup work, generic enough that it can pass for a fairly wide varity of locations and time periods just by hiding a few items, and, most importantly, has enough unique sub-environments that it can take the place of a half dozen separate smaller sets. I love the "look" of some other Stonemason sets more, but it's the very lack of a stylized look that actually makes US2 so useful.
