Please set 'Store a copy in the Sent messages folder?' by default!

If you forget to check it there's no way to get it back (other than asking the recipient to send you back a copy)

If it's checked by default and you don't want it, but you forget to uncheck it you can easily delete it at a later date.

Also sent in as a support request #172537

Private Messages: Please set ‘Store a copy in the Sent messages folder?’ by default!

Regarding the PM (Private Messaging) system on your forums.

The ‘Store a copy in the Sent messages folder?’ is unchecked by default. Common sense says it should be checked by default because if you accidentally forget to check it (which I frequently do) then there’s no way to get it back. Except of course to ask the recipient to send you back a copy.

The alternative of having it checked by default means that if you accidentally forget to UNcheck it you can easily delete it at a later date.

The ONLY possible reason I can see for having it unchecked by default is to limit the size of a user's PMs. But a simple size limit would be a better way to do that...

Google Store a copy in the Sent messages folder site:daz3d.com/forums/ or "sent messages" site:daz3d.com/forums and you'll see that lots of people have been caught out like this, expecting sent messages to be saved by default.

But after two years like this we should all know that our sent PMs are NOT saved by default

Even so we (or maybe it's just "I"?) still always get caught out!

With many forms, once we check a box, it stays checked ... but not this option to save a copy.
I agree that once we have checked off the save a copy box, it should stay checked ... and vice versa.
It's all too easy to fire off PMs and then realize oops, forgot to keep a copy.

Am I the only one who likes not having to clear out the outbox all the time?

If the default was to save copies of all messages, I'd be filling my PM quota repeatedly every time I host a Freebie Challenge. Much better to save only the PMs I need to keep, rather than all of them.

robkelk - ahhh, but If the default was to save copies of all messages, you'd have the choice to delete the messages after you forgot to uncheck the 'save' option'. For us folks who forget to check the 'save' option there is no choice... just the humiliation (well, actually it doesn't bother me any more really - I'm so used to it!) of having to send another PM to the person we just PMed (and spend a while deciding whether we want to save a copy of that PM!) asking them to send us back a copy of the PM we just sent them, and then we have to remember that the messages we sent aren't stored in our Sent Messages folder but in our Inbox, and....
    err....
    what was I talking about...
    :cheese:

    - that's the most obvious solution - have the status saved in your personal preferences (along with things like whether you want the newsletter, etc). That would suit me fine, and might even be an acceptable compromise for the robkelk-ites of this world!
So they won't be doing that then!
    ;-)

I've had a reply to the ticket I raised - it's been put forward as a suggestion.

But to avoid robkelk's displeasure I've added a note - some people prefer it as it is, so having a 'per user' default is really the best way to do it...

    GRRRRR!!!! Just did it again!
Sent a PM and realised just after I hit 'send' that I'd forgotten to check 'Save a copy in my Sent Items folder'...

Never mind I'll start posting reminders to myself in this thread instead!

    - Forgot to save a copy of my PM about the change to the XFrog freebies needing to be reflected in the [LINKS] List of Plant Freebies by Genus thread.

Just realized that there's a fairly easy, roundabout, way to remind myself. I sent myself a PM with the subject line "!!! REMEMBER TO SAVE A COPY OF SENT PMS !!!". So when I go to my PMs it's the first thing I see. Until I get a few more PMs of course.

You can always sort your PMs into folders, though having one permanently there as a reminder takes one of your total number of sueful saved PMs - and as someone who used to have a big note over his desk saying "remember diary and test results" but still forgot to write both down I can tell you that the reminder may well fade out after a while.

It is a good worthy suggestion that DAZ should implement.
