Super-discounted Silo in MacHeist nanoBundle (license works for Windows & Linux)
Greetings,
As a Mac owner, one of the sites I keep a weather eye on is http://www.macheist.com; they produce some VERY excellent bundles, and part of the proceeds always go to charities.
This time I saw that they were selling a Silo 2.3.02 license, that will work for Mac, Linux, and Windows. The bundle price is $19.99 and you get a bunch of other tools if you're a Mac user (I personally recommend Vitamin R, for example). If you're not, it's still the cheapest I've ever seen Silo available for, so it might be worth it just to get it.
And of course there's Novica's Silo modeling thread, also, once you've got it.
Just to be clear, I don't have any affiliation to MacHeist, or Silo, except being a happy customer of the first and a poor student of the second. :)
Enjoy!

really $19.99 ?
Edit: just bought it, the license worked with 2.3 for windows :)
Thanks for mentioning the thread- I'm just starting out with Silo so thought it would be a good place to put some of the things which are in the book I bought- so people can see how it works without owning it. The first few posts have screenshots of the setup, etc so you can see if it appeals to you. There's a few "pros" checking the thread and if you get stuck when using it, help is never too far away. Link is always in my signature if you lose track of this thread, or just visit Art Studio and pop into my thread (active, stays on page 1) to get my signature if the Silo one isn't readily visible.
With Silo, there are many, many neat tutorials on youtube. Glen Southern's will give you a good feel of what it can do.
I just bought this because of Silo but the download link only gives the Mac file and I'm on Windows. Nevermind I downloaded the software from Neverwhere and the Mac registration number unlocks the Windows version.
Hmmm. Further down on the page it specifically states "And, just in case you’re having trouble keeping your creative drive confined to one computer, we’re including not only the Mac version, but also the Windows and Linux versions." So I would contact them and say "Fork it over."
Hmm, missed that part. No problem though, the Windows version works great with the same serial number. Thanks.
I bought it as well.. I downloaded Silo for windows from the creators web site and registered no probs ;-)
nevercenter.com
So you two will have to do great things and tell the rest of us how you did it, lol! :)
Thanks much, Cypherfox! A bargain for Silo alone, and a charitable donation to boot! Now if I only had a Mac, I'd try the other stuff, too. :)
Thanks for the heads up. I made the purchase and I don't have a Mac either. All just to get Silo. Hexagon 2 is crashing on me on certain models and I have no clue why. Hopefully I can use Silo to split apart models just as easily as I can in Hexagon 2, and hopefully without crashing on me so often.
Thanks for posting this. I don't think either of my Macs are new enough to run the rest of the bundle, but it's worth it to me for the Windows version of Silo. Now that I'm not working for the foreseeable future, I may actually have time to learn some modeling. Um, the 3D kind; I don't think any sane person wants to see me on the runway in a dress.
I just saw a post at RDNA about this and immediately jumped at the chance. I still had my Silo 2.2 trial version installed, so the Serial Number opened that back up full. Then I went to Nevercenter and downloaded the new Silo 2.3 trial and installed it side-by-side with Silo 2.2, and it automatically picked up the Serial Number. WOOT!!!!
I usually use Blender for modelling, but wanted a second modelling app, and Hex just crashed too much to be usable. Silo has a nice clean, easy to use, UI. I just didn't want to buy it at the full price, or even the $99 sale price, Nevercenter was selling it at, and I'm not into Steam, so didn't want to get it there for a very nice price last month, because I would've had to download and install "their" software in order to use it. For those who were already Steam users, that was a good deal, for those of us who aren't, this deal is EXCELLENT!!!
Can you tell I'm a very happy camper???? :coolsmirk:
There are a few of us PA's who use nothing but Silo. Great program and a very user friendly UI. Many great tutorials out there to get you started. I've used it for 6 yrs now and don't have a single complaint
Yes, I've done Ann's vase tutorial, and it was really easy. I too like the nice clean and easy to use UI.
I also bought several of Fugazi's Silo tutorials at Renderosity when I was playing with the 30-day trial last year, so now I'll be able to work on the rest, though I'm sure I probably could've done them in Blender in any case, which is why I wasn't too upset about buying them even though the trial ended.
Thank you for the heads-up :) Purchased the bundle and also appreciate that a part of the spending is going towards charity :)
As I got a Mac this is a nice opportunity for not only Silo, though that alone would be worth it actually. I am actually interested in Cinemagraph Pro out of that bundle for example, will certainly dabble a bit with it :)
Well, I put Silo thru a newbie test and got down to do some of what I normally do. I have to say that I started working pretty quick and I only had to go find one piece of info, concerning the breaking tool.
Anyway, here is a gunship transport spaceship that I got from ShareCG. These models look good but many are one complete mesh. I like to break them apart and put simple functions like open doors and moving gun batteries (like I did with this one).
Oh, I did crash Silo once early on, can't remember what I was doing. It didn't after that. This is the model that is crashing Hexagon 2 for me.
Is this the full version of Silo? AFAIR there's also a non-commercial version, sold discounted at Steam.
The first line on the About window says "Nevercenter Silo 2.3 Professional."
Silo does crash on me but only when I try to do something repeatedly and rapidly, so I've learned to just slow down and not subdivide or undo it too quickly.

OK, thanks, I don't know what the limited version says in the About box though. Anyone here who have it?
I already have the full version actually, just thought about buying an extra copy, but I can see that you're actually allowed to install it on 3 computers if you're the only user so I'll probably won't need it anyway.
Also looks like they've started development again after several years of standstill and are working on a 64 bit Windows version, that's probably the best of it all.
I have the Steam one and it is exactly the same as the one from Nevercenter.
Could be, I think the difference was in the licensing terms.
I am trying to verify this but I don't see any mention of a non-commercial version. Do you have a link where this is verified?

It was being discussed in an older thread:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/34967/
But now, reading it again, it seems a bit unclear to me whether it's true or not.
Ameesa answered the question in this post in that thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/517616/
There is no restrictions from the Steam purchased license and I don't see any for the MacHeist purchased license either.

No, I guess there is no problem here. But you have to be careful these days, on BitsDuJour for example the licensing terms are often confusing or downright misleading, which often causes a lot of discussion.
