RFC on wishlist behaviour - is this actually "right"?
I have a support ticket right now about a problem I was having with the wishlist acting up (again), possibly due to a glitch from the removal of the "quantity" field. This seems to be fixed now, but in passing I discovered the new behaviour of the wishlist, where moving something to the cart leaves a copy in your wishlist until you buy it, is intended.
I know the wishlist never did this before, even in the old store, and I'm fairly sure I've never seen this done in any other online store I visit. I can't agree with the web team that this is correct or desired behaviour. Think about it this way:
There is no indication in the wishlist that something is in the cart. If I put something in the cart a few days ago, and I'm now browsing my wishlist again, the only way to make sure is to scroll all the way up to the top of the page and look at the Quickcart, then scroll all the way back down to where I was before.
If I click on an Add To Cart button without checking, and the item's already in the cart, I get the dreaded "quantity" error again and the wishlist snaps back up to the top of the page.
What am I supposed to do if I change my mind about the move to cart — should I use the "move to wishlist" tickbox, which is still there, or just delete it off the cart?
I'd just like a bit of discussion here about whether others consider this is "the right thing to do". I certainly don't; it clutters the wishlist with things that shouldn't be in it any more, encourages misleading mistakes, and increases confusion that the store "is horribly broken again and won't let me do something".
According to my last reply on the support ticket, a feature request has been put in to add some indication to the wishlist that an item is already in the cart. Would this be enough, or would a return to the old wishlist behaviour be better?
Opinions?

It's funny because I see your point, but I have the exact opposite problem. On another 3D site as soon as you move it to your cart it removes it from your wishlist, which is infuriating because I don't always go through with a purchase and I don't remember to click "move to wishlist" - mostly because I already had it on my wishlist so I don't see the need to do it again. Then it's not on my wishlist or in my cart and I want to put my head through a wall :-/
Everybody wants the most convenient wishlist, the problem is 'most convenient' varies by customer. Personally, I like that it doesn't just assume I'll be buying it and remove it from my wishlist, but that's just me.
I'm with Spotted Kitty on this one. I prefer the old system, where the item vanished from the wishlist the instant it was added to the cart.
Cheers,
Alex.
I agree that "move to cart" is the expected behaviour, rather than the current "copy to cart". If DAZ3D is worried about lost sales, then they can implement a "move to wishlist" function for abandoned carts - that would annoy some people, but I suspect it would annoy fewer people than the current practice does.
Update — the most recent reply on my support ticket gave some info on the status of my original query.
This thread seems as good a place as any to talk about it. So... any more ideas, or suggestions? Anyone else want to chip in with their own feature request?
I astually prefer that it first removes the item from the wishlist when it's purchased. Seems to be the most logical to me. I can always delete it from the wishlist if I decide I don't want it at all.
