Creating shape in Illustrator

I'm trying to create a simple shape in Illustrator to import into the spline modeler in C8.5Pro. I folioed the outline of a car using a stroke. Then I filled it. I saved as Illustrator 8 (why only 8?). When I import it to the spline modeler it comes in as an outline of the object, not solid. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

Expand the stroke in Illustrator BEFORE you export. This converts it to an actual path which should work.

You probably will have to make the outer and inner lines a compound (so it will fill) in Illustrator as well, unless the Spline Modeler can correctly interpret inner line as a hole.

Tried it, expanding the stroke in Illustrator to 14 pt. Saved and then imported to spline. Still comes in as outline. ??
    I'm doing something wrong.

Not sure what you mean by Outer and Inner lines. I've just drawn an outline around a photo. I've tried with and without a fill and it still comes in as shown above. I've tried EPS, AI3, AI8; nothing changes. Just solid, no stroke. Stroke no fill.

Got it. I must not have had a connected path. Re-did it and it worked.

Yes, it need to be a closed shape as you have discovered.
