Eastern Render Thread [contest closed -- winner announced]

I'm used to seeing at least one 'official' render thread at the start of a new figure release, so in lieu of that let's start one of our own. Is he a martial artist, a space-ninja warrior or a gun toting gangster? The best thing about art is you can decide for yourselves!

Post your Far-Eastern renders. Usual forum rules apply for posting, of course, and as an added bonus the best image wins a $50 gift card to spend in the Daz store! The contest runs until the end of August, so get your images posted so that everyone can enjoy your incredible art!

I'll kick start things (see what I did there) with some martial arts action. Lee faces off against Ja-Long on the streets of Edo-era Japan. I would have picked something in China, only it seems I don't really have much in the way of Chinese architecture. Oh well, we'll just say they're on vacation!

Naturally, my own art won't count as a submission since I'm the one offering the prize! Good luck everyone.

Keep them coming. Some great entries so far.

I'm extending the contest to include all far-eastern figures, so as not to exclude those who don't use Genesis. Get those renders in and you could be in with a chance to earn a $50 gift card!

Well here are a couple of renders based on Lee 6 but with other morphs dialled in to give unique look to both characters.
Both rendered in DS 4.6 and Post Worked in GIMP 2.8.

    Any comments or feedback welcomed.

A warrior of the old school clashes with a new force on the scene

    2. The Sage

Does the contest require Lee himself or will any martial arts or Far East theme be viable?

from post number 6 above I understood that we could use any character, if I'm wrong then my entry won't be accepted

    Dance for Sensei

Rendered in Carrara 8.5, with a little throwback content from Poser 5 Don as a mentor in legacy Poser 5 robes and legacy Poser 5 eastern building. Some poke-through correction in Photoshop.

Surprised this got so few entries. Still, looking forward to seeing how this will end.

Sorry for the lack of an update. It's tough to pick a winner with relatively few entries, but it's been great seeing everyone's artwork. I was hoping this would get a bit more attention than it did, but I guess fewer people are interested in the Far-East than I anticipated.

I'm mulling over whether it's worth extending the contest or not due to the lack of interest. I've noticed that Slosh's competition has had similar concerns. I wonder if it's just a lack of interest in contests overall? That would be a shame, since I find it brings out our creative best. Win or lose, it's the taking part which provides the fun.

I'll announce a winner at the end of the week assuming there are no further entries.

I have a couple of images half done I just didn't have time this month to get them completed.

It may be more to do with the new pricing structure of Daz. It is just not possible for me to buy all the new items as they come out... even if I want to enter a contest.

I knew that I could not enter this challenge at first, it is only that I happened to look again and saw that you changed the terms to allow any far eastern image that I was even able to.

It is also possible that once people viewed the terms the first time they never looked back to see that they had been changed.

I find that I rely heavily on the thread about new contests for finding what contests are available and it would have been a great place to have indicated that the contest had been modified.

I suggest extending especially given what hit the PA sale today.

I keep forgetting to make images for these contests and this is one I specifically wanted to enter - but again I will probably forget too. :)

BUT, a lot of new props today that might help inspire someone, and a character or two as well.

Since there have been a few new entries, I'm extending the contest for another week.
The 12th of September will be the FINAL deadline to get your images in for a chance at a $50 gift card.
The prize will be handed out the following day (GMT), so be ready to check your PM's as I'll be messaging the lucky winner so I can gift it.

    Good luck all.

For me, it's not lack of interest. It is lack of time. I am still very slow at building scenes, and what little time I have after work and personal commitments has been sucked down into the Genie's bottle. If I get that entry finished this weekend, I may try to do a simple Eastern-themed portrait for this contest.

I am watching with interest, and some of the entries here have been very good.
