Veranda Cafe

I'm trying to add Veranda Cafe to my scene. When I try to add a piece, it tells me something in the scene must be selected. So I select something then try to add it and still nothing. It doesn't matter what item it is I'm trying to add, it won't add.

I'm running a custom built computer with windows 7 and DS 4.6 pro.

Please help.

    That error is a bit misleading. It actually means that you aren't adding a piece of architecture to your scene, you're applying a materials preset intended for that bit of architecture which should already be in your scene. If it isn't, you get that error. You must load the actual object before you can add any materials presets for it.

    How are you seeing your content? Smart Content, Content Library, Categories and Products all behave in different ways. Some layouts make it difficult to tell whether you're clicking on an object or a material preset.

    You will have to load the Poser version in the Poser Runtime / Figures folder first and then apply the DS materials.

    Notes This product has 1 full installer, plus an installer with DAZ Studio Optimized Materials.

    I hope you installed both files for the Veranda Cafe ...

    SpottedKitty: Okay, thanks for that. I accessed them via Content Library and what you say makes sense.

    Kerya: I'll have to check but since I can only find one set of files and that they're acting like material presets, I'm guessing I don't have the full installer installed.

    I'll post an update when I have one.

    Thank you for the info. I did have all files installed and eventually found them. I didn't realise I had to go through Poser Formats in the Content Library and not the Daz Studio Formats to find the files.

    That's something you'll always have to keep in mind. Anything old enough will never appear in the D|S Formats section, because D|S didn't exist when it was made. Not-so-old items will only have Poser objects and D|S materials, separately — this was a very common arrangement for many years after D|S came out. Recent items (in the last year or two) will frequently have proper separate full Poser and D|S installers, but many items are still being made that are Poser-only, or Poser object/D|S materials. Always check the store page carefully to see exactly what you'll be getting.

    I'm having the same problem too, but I can't find the chairs to add. When trying to add a chair from the Veranda Cafe Pack nothing appears (because it's a material), yet I can find nothing listed under Poser props or figures. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

    Eva1, if you're absolutely sure you can't find the Poser objects anywhere in the Poser Formats section of the Content Library tab, it usually means you've only installed the D|S Companion Files. There should be "Veranda_Cafe" folders in the Figures, Camera, Light and Pose library folders.

    There are three installers — one full installer for Poser only, one full installer for DAZ|Studio only, and one with D|S materials files only (no object or texture files). If you don't install the right one, then you won't have the proper files in your content. The full D|S installer puts all the proper files in a D|S Formats "Environments>Architecture>Veranda Cafe" folder.

    Are you installing using the DIM, or downloading the installers manually from the Product Library page?

    When did you last download Veranda Cafe? It's one of the products that was rebuilt this October. According to the readme, if you have the most recent version, files should be in the following locations inside My DAZ3D Library (or wherever you have your content directory):

    “Environments:Architecture:Veranda Cafe:Cameras”
    “Environments:Architecture:Veranda Cafe:Lights”
    “Environments:Architecture:Veranda Cafe:Materials”
    “Environments:Architecture:Veranda Cafe:Scenes”

    The actual items will be in the Scenes directory.
