CMS has stopped running for the umpteenth time and I had to reinstall DIM too
so of course no smart content in Studio or carrara AGAIN
sick of reinstalling studio then redoing ALL my plugins
only fix I can find no database management works
carrara seems to import the duf files ok still so just living with it for now

Uh oh..... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Another wrench in the works.

    Thanks, Wendy

Silene, a little good news / bad news. I think the problem you are having, and I am having, is part of a more general issue.

DIM says it installed Victoria 4.2 in the runtime library. Neither my Carrara nor my Daz Studio recognizes any Victoria versions as installed. Something is up with DIM, and it isn't just Carrara.

I am attaching screenshots that include DIM saying it installed Victoria 4 base, the lack of any v4 content in the Carrara browser, and the lack of any Victoria content in the Daz Studio content library.

I will raise the more general issue in a new thread in the commons.

Thanks, Dio. I will just leave it for now.... I can do some workarounds, but this is SO annoying. I spent $90 yesterday to get a "free" Version 6 Genesis figure having saved some items up on my wishlist waiting for something like this.

I have checked and rechecked all my paths...but as you say, things are not being recognised even though they are installed. It didn't matter that I installed them manually and went to just plain Content. Neither Carrara nor DS want to acknowlege Kostia. Why it's OK with Aiko and my freebie Victoria 6, don't know. But am fed up.

Thanks for helping...it's helps not to be alone with these things.

Wendy, I hope if DIM starts working again that this solves problems for you and for us. I don't know enough to understand why it likes one figure and not another!

Jimmy thanks, too. I don't feel like manually moving all to the Content Library so will wait to see if the issues are resolved or if Dio gets some help.

    xx SIlene

Can you post these 2 screenshots:
    1) In DS, Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats"
    2) In DIM, on Ready to Install tab check the "Show Details" box in the lower right

Mike - thanks for checking in, but I have it solved, I think.

I uninstalled everything then re-installed to another drive. My first few tests appear to be working now. on the other hand, I haven't checked for all content in both programs - just v4, m4, genesis, genesis 2 male and female. I did not save any more screen shots of my previous failure install, except the ones above, so I won't be able to post those for you.

I will change the name of the thread to solved.

Solved by creating a folder called DIMdownloads on my D: drive, uninstalling everything from the c drive, including Daz Studio and Carrara, then reinstalling everything to the d drive. In Daz Studio, I then did the check for libraries (or whatever) and it found the content on the d: drive.

Here's my screenshots. I don't think my problem has gone away as my DS Content Library is still empty whereas the Smart Content one has all products in it (I think) EXCEPT for KOSTIA which I bought the other day. I am tempted to do what Dio did before I get into this new project. The only way I can get stuff into the DS Content Library is to physically move/copy stuff from DS Smart Content over to there.

I can see KOSTIA in my regular Content in Carrara and it is installed in all the places that the DIM filelog says. But it does not show in Carrara Smart Content like Gabi does. So she is totally missing in Smart for DS and Carrara, and only shows, but is not useable in Carrara Content. When I mean not useable...I cannot find a way to load her to get the facial effect, even if loading a V5 figure then dragging the icon from the Content tray onto V5.

    Cheers, Silene

My content library works fine as does DS and Carrara with ALL content
Just CMS not running and will not run
Autofit etc all fine, just no smart content

DIM worked with a reinstall and suspect CMS would if I redid studio
    But happens to much
I have a solid state hard drive so NOT fusssing around with continual reinstalls of stuff
    Will live with it

Hello Silene, I have solved the problem of the Content Library not showing content :)

You have the tab closed up, click on the little double headed arrow as shown below in a reprint of your image, and all will be revealed

ACK!!! What a weird thing! I never have messed about with it so don't know why it suddenly disappeared. You would think the default would be to show, who would want it closed?

I was confused because I could move stuff to the library manually and the large icons showed in the space that was all gray. I even tried to click on the list form, etc up at the top. You'd think it would drop down then and not be hidden as an expansion arrow the size of a louse? And I'd put something in the search slot that I knew I had and nothing ever showed. You'd think it would drop down automatically then? Nooooo. Too weird.

Thank you for looking at it so closely... you're a star!!!

Still no Kostia, though that I can open. Lots of errors in log file. Will have to look some more or maybe just return the product for a refund.

    Cheers!

    xx :) Silene

Yes, it's a silly little thing that can happen, and it has happened to plenty of other people before.

I don't know why I didn't spot it straight away, maybe eyesight, age, or a combination of both :) Can't help with Kostia as I don't have it, but you could try dropping the artist a PM to see if they can help?

I did what I did in Carrara, loaded V5 first, then dragged the ! shape icon onto it and her face came through. Doesn't work in Carrara. I *think* part of her facial characteristics are also Aiko oriented and perhaps DS applied the Aiko features in the ! inj shape tool but Carrara doesn't. Will keep that in mind if I buy any more items. This was why I was so keen to get DS working so I could do her and then export to Carrara.

Thanks so much for helping me... much appreciated!!

    You are most welcome!

Sorry, Silene. I see that you still have unresolved Carrara issues with the database. I will remove solved from the thread title. Ooops.

    No it's OK.

I can get Kostia to work in DS but not in Carrara. It might be an artist issue.

Jimmy sorted me on my hidden Content Library issue in DS!! The tab was the size of a gnat's turd.

Am just about to bring my Kostia into Carrara from DS now that I was able to configure her. I think maybe Carrara does not like PA figure injections that use more than one character. Here it was V5 +Aiko5. I can bring a V5 into DS and apply the Kostia ! file and get the face shape.

In Carrara I cannot get that with just using V5 or A5, one does not pick up the other's features for some reason. Dunno.

No matter... I can do what so many of you have talked about...set up in DS and export to Carrara for Genesis of all versions. Works much better.

As thread makes clear, I installed C8.5, Daz Studio, etc. on a new windows 8.1 machine. I have yet another problem. Carrara is not remembering changes. For examples, I added an object and a shader folder to the browser (by the way, these are folders that the DIM created instead of putting the content in the correct place, aaargh). I closed Carrara. The next time I started a Carrara session, I had to add the folders again. And again. And again. Along the same lines, Carrara is not remembering my Architools password. I have to enter it every time.

That sound like you need to run Carrara as 'Aministrator'.

I don't know how you do that using Win 8, but it should be easy enough to find out? In Win 7, I just right click on the icon on the desktop, and choose 'Run as Administrator' and I never have to enter anything again.

It's exactly the same in Win8, right click on the Carrara icon and 'run as administrator'. That's what worked for me to get Carrara to remember folders I added, so hopefully it will help/work.

Thank Jimmy and Jon. That fixed the browser folders, but not the architools sign in.
