Best Tool for Creating Clothing for Characters

There are definitely tons of props that I can purchase for my characters. I've seen some good videos that point to Hexagon, zBrush, etc for creating clothing props, but what has been labeled the hands-down "best solution" for it? I have some props in Mind that are not listed here because they are "that" out of this world!

There is no best tool. Choice of modelling app is as individual as the person using it.

Modelling apps range from free to "you need a load to pay for it" pricing.

Blender is probably the best of the free apps. It has a learning curve. Wings3D is one of the oldest. Scupturis is free and gives you some of the same tools as the full ZBrush.

Hex is low priced but isn't without it's issues. Same goes for Pegasus Modeller. Silo is another low to mid priced modeller. Getting into higher prices are ZBrush, Modo, Lightwave, 3DS Max and Maya and the rest of the AutoDesk line.

Best advice is to download the free ones and try them. Download the demos and try them.

Thanks icprncss! I have Hexagon and would love to extract like I've seen in zBrush videos but the lower end things take a little more work.

ZBrush has a major summit this weekend and I am looking forward to seeing their new version (hopefully cheaper too).

There is a longish thread here that may interest you http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/42075/

Someone experimenting with making clothes using Blender, with the help of a PA, who has also done a tutorial on the subject.

ZBrush 4R6 is on sale for $795, I doubt if any newer version would be cheaper, but we live in hope :)

Sculptris can do a similar job, and it is free, can't argue with that price. You could download and try it as has been suggested.

JimmyC, Living in hope? Oh most definitely!!!!!

I have Sculptris as well. Is there an extract feature? If so, I will go back and revisit it. It's so basic! Don't get me wrong, FREE is wonderful. Sometimes I feel like writing my own 3D modeling program

Thank you, chohole! I guess I could look at Blender again. It was hurting my brain to understand the tool. Especially, after I was spoiled with Maya for a while.

Have you taken a look at Blender? It has a learning curve but if you can get the hang of it, it has one the best tool sets available.

Silo is another modeller in the lower end of the for pay. Best example for it is Blackhearted's work on GND4.

If you go to Trubosquid, you might be able to pick up a copy of gmax. gmax was a scaled back version of 3dsMax. It was primarily aimed at game and mod/level designers.

Never heard of GMAX until today! Definitely downloading. I've been on Turbosquid's site many times before. Odd!

Yeah, I will definitely re-download Blender. Tools like Poser, Vue and Maya have spoiled me.
