Just Wondering About Texture Maps

Just curious, can Genesis 2 texture maps be used on Genesis 1 figures, and vice versa? If so, how? I tried to do that, but for instance when I have M5 selected, I can't even see the Michael 6 materials. It would be great if things could be swapped back and forth. I know the clothing can be swapped between Genesis 1 and 2. I wish the skin maps could, just to get different looks.

Thanks.

The Genesis 2 Male comes with the UVs for M5 included, so it is possible to use M5 skins on M6, but not the other way around that I know of.

The vendor Slosh, has a lot of items in that line here http://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=slosh&x=0&y=0 Just read the product description carefully, because some do not contain UVs or Autofit clone shapes

Melanie, you'd have to find a way to convert the materials. Gen2M has Generation 5 UV-maps if you buy them (M5 is provided for free), but so far, none of the vendors has realised there's so much market space for getting, say, Ryze for Gianni 6 onto M5 shape or something similar.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I was just curious. I know the clothing works on both. It couldn't hurt to ask.

Sure it didn't :). I wish I could help you further... Somebody ought to make better Genesis <=> Gen2M/Gen2F support.

You can use "Map Transfer" step in DAZ Studio via the Surface tab specific menu icon at top right to e.g. transfer M6 UV map based textures to other UV maps your G2M supports, which works to get them to M5 for example (or to M4 if you own the UV map on G2M). Similarly you can transfer from Genesis / V4 / M4 to any G2 figure by using a UV map as transfer target that your G2 figure supports.

You still have to apply the created textures manually as material presets are not created, just the textures. It is beneficial to concentrate on one map at a time (which may be used for multiple surfaces), so e.g. transfer all surfaces using the torso texture in one go and then continue to do the same for the limbs texture and so on.

It works quite well in my view and I used it to transfer e.g. Aiko5 textures over to G2F.
