The world just became a little less funny and a little bit more sad. I'm just sick about this! Rest in Peace Robin!

There is a very sweet missive from Steve Martin posted at the end of the article that really got to me....

“You’re only given one little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it."

My memories include going to Amazing Comics on Irving in San Francisco and the owner mentioning how Robin Williams would often eat at Tart To Tart and come over and buy some comics... a lab member who sat by him in a cafe in the Sea Cliff neighborhood.... my boss telling us about how his house (also in Sea Cliff) always had the best Halloween candy... and me being almost knocked over by Robin Williams leaving a Peets Coffee in the Laurel Heights neighborhood in San francisco.... he was a palatable member of our community.

I was in a tabletop gaming store in Monterey, California back in 1993, picking up a figure I had entered in (and won) a month-long miniatures painting contest. I heard behind me, "Whoah, that's an amazing paint job! Congratulations!" I turn, and it's Robin Williams. Good night, Mr Williams.

The news came late to me, while watching the Perseid meteor shower.
Shooting stars. Something about the combination seemed sad, encouraging, and humbling at the same time.

Just came across this post. I thought it was sad enough, but when I found out the apparent cause...to me that is one of the saddest things in the world to happen to anyone....

Robin Williams was a comic genius and also an excellent character actor (a rare combination). He will be sorely missed.

    Alex.

I cant look at the corkscrew on a swiss army knife without thinking of the line "Many of you have never opened Chardonnay under fire!"

    so sad.

I got the honor to meet him back in 2004 right after I was assigned to my first base working in Iraq. He came to our base to do a USO show and was all about making sure the troops knew he supported them. He took the time to thank everyone of them that waited in line for an autograph or picture and asked all of us our first names and thanked everyone by name. we were at an isolated camp so they had to travel to get to us and I remember the USO sponsor trying to get him to leave before he had finished and he refused. That really showed the love he had for his fans and the love he had for what he did. The world is going to be a shade darker and just a little less funny without him.

I found this hard to believe when I saw a link to the article in my NY Times eNewsletter this morning. It's just so sad to lose someone so talented.

It's as if he was so generous with giving out joy to others that he forgot to keep a little for himself.... :(

Two legends in two days. Lauren Bacall just passed away at 89 from a massive stroke. R.I.P. Lauren!

I was named after her so I am especially sad about her loss.

I love the name Lauren. It's also a name that works on both male and female!

Oddly enough the name was a curse when I was a kid. None of my teachers could pronounce or spell it. Which is crazy since she has been a big star for years before I was born. Then Ralph came out with a perfume and suddenly it was popular. Down here the male version is generally Loren.

Ah, I knew there was a spelling difference but the name itself was sort of Asexual! lol
