Waaay OT... iPad camera question...
So my camera's lithium battery is hiding somewhere and I decide to use my wife's ipad (the newer full sized one... not the small one)... iOS7...
My goal... go snap a couple of close ups of some leaves to turn into leaf textures...
No problemo yah?
Look at that big huge screen... nothing like looking through a stupid viewfinder right?
Yeah... only problem is what the screen shows you is nothing like what you end up getting as a photo.
So if anyone out there is familiar with the working of this device, can I ask a few questions?....
1- Is this thing capable of taking portrait pictures? If you hold the iPad upright (portrait style) it squares the picture (even when not set to "SQUARE" mode... cool if I like old polaroid pictures, not so much if I want to take a picture without cutting off the top and bottom of the photo...
2- Even throw-away junk digital cameras display a little "view-frame" box to give you an idea of what you might end up with... but aside from the "grid" I don't see this as an option anywhere... is there one?
I know that the stupid camera is not a 1200 SLR, and not even as good as the iPhone... but it seems rather common sense that this should be available... so I assume its a thoughtfully hidden feature.
I've already looked into this, googled the hell out of every manner of logical search term I could think of and asked at the Apple forums... but I figured some of the nice forumites who visit the commons might know the answer to this too.
Thanks in advance for any answers you may have to what seems to be a stupid question.

It only squares the thumbnail. The picture itself is rectangular, in portrait or landscape orientation as appropriate.
Thanks.
I feel really stupid...
I asked this after loading the pix onto my Mac and viewing them in Preview (or maybe Image Capture)... they appeared the same as what I now know are the thumbnails... So a few minutes ago I dropped them into photoshop to try and fix them or patch them together and they showed up fine (correctly centered and dimensions)... so I went back to Preview and they now show up uncropped...
maybe the ipad was still connected... I've never had preview show a picture cropped before...
Well, I just found out that to see the picture correctly on the ipad you should tap the image when viewing in the film roll...
Duoh!
Well, thank you for your reply!
Never had any problem with it, myself. Takes beautiful pictures. Just remember to manually switch 'HD' on each time. ;-)
Of course, I'm using the 'New iPad', which came out after the 2nd, but which they didn't call 'iPad 3', for some reason... Yours might be different.
