Woohoo!! We had a couple of new entries today!
Roygee submitted his first WIP, which will be using G2F, but he doesn't have Carrara 8.5. In his first WIP post, he details the process used to export G2F from DS to Carrara. His very informative post can be seen here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P131/
Bunyip02 gave us a quick glimpse of another great challenge entry. For this project much of the setup will be done in DS, then completed in Carrara! You can see Bunyip02's first challenge WIP here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P132/
diomede64 just gave us a better look at his Jack and Jill challenge entry. He has a very unique Jack character, you can see his latest update here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P133/
We just got another entry in the challenge!
DADA_universe entered the challenge with a project that was inspired by PhilW (the creator of the tutorials that are part of the prizes for the challenge). Included in this entry is a really cute" AI bot " that DADA_universe modeled about three years ago. You can find the entry WIP here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P138
If you have an idea for the challenge, there is still plenty of time to enter!!
Things are getting really interesting now, we have two more challenge entry's!!
Marcus Severus has an awesome first WIP post with a great spin on the challenge theme! The first WIP by Marcus Severus can be found here (also a first time Carrara challenge paticipant - very impressive): http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P142/
Philemo has entered the challenge as well with a great start. In the first WIP post, Philemo states "The “Vicky in a Temple/Tomb with a Sword” (in my case a spear) idea is new to me, but why not." - from the first WIP entry it sure doesn't look like a "first time"! Philemo's entry WIP can be seen here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P143/
Roygee continues to integrate Genesis and 3rd party content from ShareCG seamlessly in a pre 8.5 version of Carrara. Love the river that he is texturing with a picture of water that he took. Looks to be a beautiful pastoral scene - well, if an amazon with a sword can be pastoral. His description of how he is putting it together is here.

Wow! Hard to believe we're on page 12 of the challenge!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P165/
It's good to see so many new faces (or at least avatars ;-) ) joining the challenge.
I know that dustrider will now have some competition using the Octane plugin for Carrara in this challenge as one of the new faces is using it as well.
Another new entry by Dievans, and he is our second entry using the new Octane Render plugin for Carrara! You can see his entry post here:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P158 . He added this post later after a bit of quick shader work: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P169
EvilProducer gives us a better look at how he will use his Hermitt figure for the challenge here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P171
Varsel shows a bit more of his challenge entry with some great vertex modeling here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P174
Roygee shows a very interesting WIP update for his challenge entry here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P153
Diomede64 shows us how he added vegetation to his hill for "Jack" and "Jill" here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P155
The Sept. Carrara submissions thread is now open! Be sure to drop by and see the final entry's!
You can find it here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/46190/
We now have 4 very interesting final entries in the submissions thread (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/46190/) They are:
Vicky in the Courtyard with a Really Big Battle Axe (and a big lance too)! (by me)
Mrs. White in the Ballroom with a Candlestick (by Diomede)
Jill on a Hill with a Pail of Water (by Diomede)
Vicky on a Zeppelin, Making Out with a Puppet (by EvilProducer)
We got a couple of new challenge entries today!!
Tim_A has a really interesting entry with a spiral staircase. Well, sort of a square spiral, check it to se what I'm talking about here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P195/ and here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P201/
Jonstark posted his first WIP with some outstanding Carrara dynamic hair here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P198/
Bunyip also gave us a great update on his concept car project here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P197/
We also have 3 new final entries in the submissions thread (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/46190/) They are:
Vicky in the Photo Studio with a chai ......... DONUT???? (by me)
Appleseed in the country thinking of a kiwi fruit (by Stezza)
Genesis on a boat with a Monster (by Kashyyyk)
This is turning out to be a great challenge with extremely well done renders, and some very creative (and fun) ideas! Be sure to check out both the WIP thread and the Submissions thread. If you have Carrara - there is still time to enter the challenge to get a shot at some outstanding prizes, and have some fun too!
Wowzers! Would you believe the WIP thread is up to page 16!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P225/
There's been some awesome new WIPs as well as some great discussion on lighting tricks and methods. Plus some cool ways to simplify the lighting process by using glow shaders and GI, as well as editing many regular lights at once using Carrara's Master Light feature. You should check it out!
I go MIA for a couple of days and come back to tones of great new WIP posts!! I looks like everyone is having a great time with this challenge.
Finally got around to adding this challenge to the collection. Some great tips and tricks in these threads, which can be found here.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45254/
Thanks Diomede, it's great to have all the challenge WIP information collected in one location.
We also have two new challenge entries in this months challenge from Antara (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P256/) and shlomi laszlo (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P267/).
The quality of the information being posted in this challenge is outstanding!!!!
We have 5 more final entries to the submission thread! (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/46190/)
Roygee with "Geraldene Relaxing by a River with Sword"
Roygee with "Mike Coming off His Bike in a Forest
Philemo with "Rookie night"
Kashyyyk with "Sushi on a plate with a Cellphone"
EvilProducer with "Cheesecake in a Studio with a Nearly Nekkid Vicky".
The WIP threat is now up to page 19!! (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45561/P270/)
SukyL and Antara both added some very detailed explanations on their shader setups!! There is a lot of great information that I’m sure I’ll be able to put to good use, and I would imagine it will be extremely useful to many other Carrara users as well
Varsel put 14 fully clothed characters in a single scene! He has great interaction between the characters, and modeled the environment the are in with Carrara a well.
If you have an unfinished idea or a new inspiration, you still have until Sunday Daz time get an entry in. Lots of help generally available if you questions.
The challenge thread is up to page 23!!
Like Diomede noted - there is still time to get an entry in, the prizes are definitely worth the effort!
Plus there's some damned fine information in the WIP thread. Quite a bit of the information given in the WIPs could be used in other programs, such as tips on lighting, modeling, etc. The mechanics of the methods are all Carrara, but the principles can apply to almost any app.
We had 20 entries, yes twenty, for the Sept. Carrara Challenge - Just Say NO to Flat 3D - Spinning a Popular Theme!
Please help us by dropping by and voting for your favorite 3D images!!
The voting thread can be found here.
You can find out more about how each entry was created by visiting the WIP thread.
We had several people enter the challenge this month that have never entered a Carrara challenge before, we had few entries done with the new Octane plugin for Carrara, and we even had some people that are new to Carrara enter!
There are some oustanding entries, and a lot of creative and fun spins on the theme. Please help us by stopping by and voting for your favorite images. It only takes a vfew minutes, and really helps give our small Carrara community a big boost to know that others enjoy our final works as much as we enjoy making them.
Very well said dustrider!
I voted!
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/46190/
Dustrider, if it helps, I wasn't above changing the title of the thread I maintained in The Commons to shamelessly beg for votes! ;-)
Pity is a strong motivator, and the kind folks that post here took pity on me and came on over to vote, for which I am eternally grateful!
I voted.
I would encourage visitors to view the entries at full size.
I voted.
Look! I have a button.
I want to steal your button! That's a great idea!
Please do. I made it in Carrara. I can send you the .car file too if we can make attachments somewhere.
Just a reminder that anyone with a Daz account can vote in the Carrara challenge. Would love to have visitors participate.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/46190/
Here is the way Dustrider described this month's theme.
And if you have Carrara but haven't fired it up in a while, consider joining the fun next month.
and I stole a button ;-)
A few more people voted! Thanks!
You don't have to use Carrara, or make an entry to vote! Voting is open to anybody with a DAZ 3D account, so basically, if you can post in the forum, you can vote. I did!
P.S. Thanks for the button Suki!
You're welcome!
