The video on the index page of daz3d.com is a bad choice !

"DAZ 3D In Action"

The most important thing for users of DAZ Studio is: How easy to make your own figure with the look you want !

The key word for DAZ Studio is "Easy" ! But what "DAZ 3D In Action" show us? A lot of pictures which many 3D softwares can do.

What daz3d.com really need is a video like the one on the index page of Lumion's website:
http://lumion3d.com/

It shows people 2 things: what this software can do, and how easy you can do it !!

Check this video out, it's much better than "DAZ 3D In Action" for promotion.

I post this topic because I want to tell some people how good DAZ Studio is, with only one short video. But I can't find one !

Your suggestion is a good one for another video. I'm not sure if you've scrolled down the DAZ front page, but under the 3D University section, there is a video on how to put together a scene called the barefoot dancer which provides a good overview of working in DAZ Studio. It may not be quite the same, but may provide the information you seek to show others about working in DAZ Studio.

"barefoot dancer" is the first daz tutorial I've watched before. It is a great quickstart tutorial, I like it a lot. But it's too long for a promotion video.

I've also watched "Intro to DAZ 3D"
    http://youtu.be/66EEbjDIepg

It's a little better than "DAZ in Action". But the problems with this video are:
    * Fast forwarding is bad. When people see a fast forward, they won't feel it can be done easily.
    * Using an assassin as a show case is not a popular choice. A young fashionable girl in a fashionable scene will be much better.

The Daz video is designed to get people who have no idea what this 3D art stuff is to want to be involved in it. It shows a lot of finished work - and a small bit on the process. What it doesn't reveal is how complex the process to get to the kind of finished work it shows will be.

It gets you in, but doesn't tell you that what you're seeing there is very advanced users. Most intelligent people can tell this though - its a bit like looking at Photoshop promos and realizing that you are not going to be as amazing as those artists - unless you put in a lot of time and effort. Daz is showing you what you could do - and then shows you a little bit of how its done in smaller snippets - like showing people using a paint brush and canvas in an art store advertisement.

The other video you linked has a very different goal. It is designed not for art - but to produce architecture demos. The video reveals that the models are all pre-posed and pre-animated, the lighting is amazing but limited to the specific purpose - and the tool is just a composing tool. Take your CAD, and compose a scene around it to show to clients.

These videos have very different aim, and are targeting very different kinds of customers.

I don't see a problem with the Daz video at all. For the kind of customer it is aimed at, its fairly well done.
