installing DAZ 4.6 on an SSD and content to a diffrent HDD
Hi every one.I've been gone for awhile.Moved to N.J.Just built a new system and am installing DAZ from scratch and once again I feel stupid and lost.
I want to load DAZ4.6 64bit and DIM to my samsung SSD,but I want to put all my content onto my seagate 1tb hard drive.Everything is new the hard div is formatted and partitioned but is totally empty. No folders or anything, just blank.
My question is how exactly to go about doing this.i'm using windows 8.1 and suck at windows in general.I' assuming I need to create a bunch of folders so that I can create a path for the content and then use that path with the DIM?
I also head that you shouldn't mix dAZ content with any other content and that you should create a seperate path for non daz content.I've always used the same path for everything and never had a problem.I guess i have to create even more files in windows for non daz content?
I'm feeling quite stupid and confused.Any help and or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
thanks,
raykat

DIM will ONLY install DAZ 3D content that you have bought from the store here, it wont see or install other content either bought from other stores or from ShareCG or other freebie sites. DIM logs into your account at DAZ 3D and produces a list of items which are ready to download, and it keeps track of what you have installed.
There is no need to create separate folders for non DAZ 3D items, but some people do. The My DAZ 3D Library contains a folder called 'Runtime' (which DIM creates on installing Poser Content), and that can be used for other items from other stores as well, but you will have to put them in there manually, DIM wont do it.
If you are not sure of where to put content bought from other places, just ask in the forums, but generally, Poser content goes into the Runtime folder inside My DAZ 3D Library, and the DAZ Studio Formats go into their own folders inside My DAZ 3D Library. DS Format can be a bit more tricky, but once again you can ask on the forums if you are not sure.
Just give the path to My DAZ 3D Library (or whatever name you decide on) to DIM, and it will install all DAZ 3D content (for Poser and DAZ Studio).
The reason I suggest My DAZ 3D Library, is because when asking questions on the forum, it might be easier if everyone is using the same folder names.
Hope that helps a bit, if not, just ask?
cool. Most helpful. That's pretty much what i thought.I just wanted to be sure. One more question.Should my poser content path be similar as when first installing daz and reating paths for daz and poser...that always irked me that you had to specify two diferent paths.one for daz and one for poser.i kind of understand why but it's weird.
Again thanks for your help.i really appreciate it....raykat
Not if you are using DIM, the one path is all that is required. Do NOT add Runtime to the end of the path for Poser content, DIM knows what it is, and it knows to put it into the Runtime folder inside your DAZ Content library.
Poser Content will then show up in the Content Library pane under Poser Formats in DAZ Studio, and if you use Poser itself, then you can add the same path there, and Poser will pick up the runtime folder, and add it as a library.
I take my answer to your PM didn't have enough information? Sorry about that but you could have said so.
Sorry, didn't mean to offend you.You were helpful.just wanted to post openly to get as much advice or any tips as possible.again
didn't mean to make it appear as though you weren't helpfull..you were and i thank you as well as every one here for all of the support and help..raykat
I wasn't offended I was just asking a simple question so I know if future to add more info. I probably assume that most folks who have used DS in the past have some more in-depth knowledge...my bad. :)
No worries.like i said I moved to Jersey from L.A. and haven't worked on any art or DAZ for almost 6 month.i've been busy finding work, finding a place to live, getting a car and building a new pc, so some of my knowledge base is rusty.
it's all good and i thank you for being so patient and understanding
So you all settled in now, have you found a job yet?
Rusty.....yep how quickly we can lose it if we don't use it.
Thanks yes I more understanding than people give me credit but patience I am still working on. :)
yeah,I did find a job,and a cheap car and after saving a few bucks built a new computer consisting of a gigabyte z97 ud5 motherboard, core I7 4790k devils canyon chip,8 gigs of g.skill ip jaw memory,a ge-force 760 video card with 2gigs off ddr5 ,a samsung 259 gig SSD,and a seagate 1tb HDD....I've only ever had a single hard drive so the combo of the solid state and reg hard drive were what was causing my pain.
Yes..rusty,without question..but it will all come flowing back once I'm back into the swing of things.
Once again..no worries brotha..i thank you for all your help..every one here has always treated me with nothing but respect and love....and that hasn't changed...you rock!
