Where can I get the old, good DAZ Studio 3?

DAZ Studio 4 has been a nightmare for me so far. Much harder to use, and ALL of my .daz scenes are now useless.
I want my old DAZ Studio 3 back, but I didn't keep a copy anywhere and I can't find it on the internet either...

Somebody please tell me there's a way to get the old DAZ back...

Is it in your Product Library? http://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files/#prod_11999

If not, you'd need to file a support ticket to see if you could get a copy.

Thank the gods, turns out it's still in my library! How did I not think of that?
Now I can get back to work, thanks =)

Nevermind, it's all going wrong again. The daz studio 3 entry in the library is only "base content" for some reason it only installs the content folders, but not the actual program.

Guess I'm making a support ticket...

If your DS3 scenes were not opening with missing file errors it may be enough to add the DS 3 content directory to DS4 - quickest way is to open the Content Library pane, right-click on the DAZ Studio Formats heading, and select Add Base Directory - the folder you wanted, if you used the defaults, would be \DAZ 3D\Studio 3\Content in your Documents folder. That wouldn't stop you from using DS3 as well, but would allow you a choice if you needed a product or feature available only in DS4. It would also be a good idea to go to Window>Workspace>Select Layout and choose one of the more advanced layouts, and perhaps to change the style to Darkside in Window>Style>Select Style to make the visual differences less jarring.

Okay, got an answer from support. They claim they "no longer have copies of older versions of DAZ available for download".

This pretty much ends my relationship with DAZ. I'm switching to Poser, I've noticed most products on Renderosity are made for
Poser and not DAZ anyway. I want as few compatibility problems as possible.

Ciao all (no hard feelings), thanks for trying.

Well, if you were persistent, you'd probably get it to work with the new DS.

But it sounds like you may have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket, so more power to you! ;-)

If you can find an old magazine with a CD and you have access to a serial you could still do it.
There were many that included it on their content discs it is how I first found DAZ.
The book "figures characters and avatars" also came with a disc and content including Carrara6.

I'm not a techie, I'd never get it working anyway. I get so many errors I don't understand when I try to load a .daz file in DS4, it's pointless to even try.

I find it disturbing myself you can no longer access it from your content library
I do not have it on my PC at present but have to install it sometimes for various reasons
One being FBX export with parenting, esp on legacy content broken in DS4+ as uses default co-ordinates
    Another being welded vertex props

Although I don't know how many of what errors you are seeing, keep in mind that there may be no connection between the number of errors and the number of things that need to be changed to fix them. One single thing going wrong could generate any number of error messages, all of which could potentially be resolved with a single fix. Not saying that's what will happen, or that you can resolve it without the older version, just saying it ISN'T guaranteed to be pointless to try based purely on the volume of error messages, and since others here might be able to understand what they are, you don't even have to know what they mean; just post a screen shot of the first one in case somebody else has the knowledge and can help.

While this next bit of advice won't help you here, it will help you in the future if you start now: Always keep a copy of at least the last known good version of any software you use, maybe even a few levels back. While I haven't personally needed to go back to any of my older saved version of DAZ Studio, with software in general I repeatedly have had to revert to using older versions due to issues with or changes in newer versions. Saving a few older copies of every single application, driver, etc. you own takes very little effort, time, or disk space, and will probably save your butt multiple times in the future.

They claim they “no longer have copies of older versions of DAZ available for download”.

How very odd. I have both version 2 and 3 in my product library and the download links are complete, with and without content. (of course, in my case, as I mentioned in another thread, my available product keys strangely do not include one for version three).

You may only get DAZ Studio from DAZ, no one else is allowed to give you a copy even if the program was free. As other have said if you bought version three through the DAZ store it should still be in your Product Library, just type "Studio" in to the search box.

I think people who used the free version probably never had it in their library but downloaded it via CNet.
The content bundle was added to their library when they registered it but not the software itself.
People who still have it in their library are the ones who purchased DS3 Advanced from the store.

Sounds like the mesh work in the data folder for your .DAZ scene files is missing or been deleted, if that's the case then even if you do get a copy of DS3 they still wont work.

What most people just don't realize is that none of the content we used was actually compatible with DS, it wasn't until DS4.5 and DSON that we actually got content that was compatible with DS. Even today with 4.6 anything you use that isn't DSON still isn't compatible, take V4 as an example, if you save her as a scene or subset all of the mesh work you see, ie the mesh, morphs, UV and rig are saved to the data folder, it's these files that DS loads your scene/subset from and not the original CR2, and that is how DS has always worked, DS1 & 2 saved the mesh work into the data/ folder, DS3 saved it into the data/3_0/ folder.

If you can get a copy of DS2.3 or DS3 then those data folder files can be recreated, but it can be a right royal pain in the ass to do.

I Still can download even DAZ Studio 2.3.3.146 and have all the serial numbers still listed. I don't understand why you can't.

    Try this link http://download.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files/prod/11999/file/104497/DAZStudio_3.1.2.32_Win32.exe

I got DAZ Studio 3 back in January 2012, when Daz Studio 4 became free and you could "buy" both DS 4 and DS 3 for free in DAZ store. I did not download it via CNet. But now when I look in my Product Library, I only have DS 3 Base Content file available for download, not the program itself. I have DS 3 serial number in my account though. It is strange that some people have the DS 3 software in their Product Library and some dont.

I have two entries for DAZ Studio 3.1.2.32 in my product library.
One is the software - the other the content
I searched for "Studio" and sorted by name to find these entries.

Edited to add: but I am one of those who bought DS3Advanced (and later DS4Advanced - LOL).
