Keeping track of files?

Does anyone have any tips on file-structure to keep track of shots and elements? For a given shot I have:
--the Daz Studio project file it was made in
--the MOV or image series file of the animation…typically a few layers for each shot
--the After Effects project in which these layers are comp'd.
--the resulting mov file, usually rendered in Pro Res LT
--the Premiere project in which the shots are assembled.
--And the exported sequence.

It's getting to be a bit confusing to keep track of it all.

I think it's just a matter of setting up a file structure you can remember, i.e. keep it simple.

I enter some 2 day video making contests, here is the structure I used for one a few years back. (MEP is Movie Edit Pro, my video editing program). The top folder is "48 Hour Film Project 2012". Rendered sequences (JPG, mov, avi, etc) are kept in the same file as the Carrara project file, and imported from there into MEP. For this kind of project, I use "Save All Internally" for Carrara projects.

(P.S. Yes, I know JPG sequences are recommended, but in a two day contest, it's a little quicker to render short video clips.)
