Content Library +90% gone

PatroklosPatroklos Posts: 533

Hello,

I have not used Daz3d for some months, now I have some time I fire it up to find much of the content library has gone. Not all of it, but most.

I stopped and started the CMS from within Daz - no good. I reimported all metadata - no good.

I would be greatfull for some help in restoring.

Thanks

Not sure what happened, but a few things to check:

Did you perhaps loose some of the mapped content paths? (Content Library pane's menu, select "Content Directory Manager", expand everything and make sure everything you used to have there is still there.) Similarly, if you moved any of those folders, you'll have to update the paths to DS knows.

Was all the missing content in a single folder, and if so, could you have accidentally deleted that folder? There's a bug where under certain circumstances, the wrong folder will be renamed/deleted, and although it will display the actual folder that's about to be renamed/deleted for confirmation, there's a good chance you're not paying attention at that point and will do it anyway. If this happens though, your deleted content would go back to unassigned, so you would still see it, just not where you expected to find it.

Could you have accidentally moved it somewhere? Try running a search for some content thumbnail, see if maybe it's still in the database, just somewhere unexpected.

Hello Sean & thanks for your help.

Upon investigation (some of the) stuff that Daz3d can't see still appears to be in the Daz3d library.

Is it worth uninstalling every thing with the Install manager and reinstalling?

I'm not sure what you mean by "(some of the) stuff that Daz3d can’t see still appears to be in the Daz3d library." Do you mean that you can see it in the library within DAZ Studio if you search for it, but cannot figure out where in the library it has been categorized to, or do you mean that you cannot see it in the library within DAZ studio at all, you can only see the files on disk outside of DAZ Studio, or something else?

I would not start uninstalling/reinstalling everything just yet, as it MIGHT turn out to be a lot of work and unnecessary or not fix the issue.

Pick one of those missing items. Post a screenshot showing the full path in Windows (or whatever OS you use), and a second screenshot showing that path mapped in DAZ Studio (Just in case there is a misunderstanding about how to map content or a typo you didn't see that we might see.)

Do you mean "the Content Library tab" or "the Smart Content tab"? Both let you see your content, but in different ways.

Content Library shows all the files that make up your installed content, as they exist on your computer. It should always work and doesn't depend on anything else, it only needs the correct content location paths set up in the Content Directory Manager.

Smart Content does not show your content — what you see there is a filtered and sorted view of a database of links to your content. This database must have the CMS running; if you still use the old CMS, this is known to misbehave now and then. Anything not set up for Smart Content will not appear here, you will only see it in the Content Library.
